Rider gave Pitt all they could handle on Sunday only using six players. Yet they are a 3 pt underdog to Drexel. Any thoughts?
Sorry, I'm late. Drexel's defense is goooooooooood this year. I'm talking top 10 good possibly. Their defense will actually win them games in that conference.

Thoughts on ISU/Drake? Normally I would kinda like Drake at this short line, but ISU has the talent imo to contend in the Big 12, just dont know if they are together yet.
I think the verdict is still out on Iowa State, and I need to see them play a bit. You are right, they have talent with the transfers that came in an could knock anybody off in this conference at any point. I'm sort of in the same boat as you, might not see the peak of this team until later in the year. I put them in the 8/9 slot of the Big 12, probably going to readjust if I can see something positive in the first week or so.
I like Drake's makeup from a defensive perspective, but they take a hit with VanDeest not being ready quite yet. The awkward thing with Drake is that they're an "on-again, off-again" type of team. When they play well, the do it in stretches. Same for when they play bad, and it's never changed in Phelp's tenure. One thing is consistent with this team though, whoever they put Rayvonte Rice on defensively, there is a good chance he's going to shut them down.

neil i'm sorry i didn't see you post this earlier, but I had seen a tweet from the CSU coach saying they would run more this year and I know in the offseason Matt Doherty had said the same thing.
Did you hear this and you're not believing them, or were you unaware?
I saw the article where even kenpom was mentioned. It'd be dumb for them not to run with the roster they have in place. In reference to the SMU game, I just thought SMU would control the tempo and slow it down. Once they got down, they really had no choice to continue to minimize possessions. Watching SMU is like watching paint dry...wasn't the case last night.

I mentioned the point of them shutting down Northern Iowa's guards yesterday, as they guard the perimeter as good as any team in the country. Gun to my head, I think they take UNI's offense completely out of the game, probably win by a final score of 57-41, somewhere around there.

Pick of the day tommorrow 11/15 SCarolina at Elon. SC-5. SC just beat WCarolina by 25 and my sports mags has WCarolina ranked 2 notches higher than Elon in the North division of the Southern conference. What's hapning NROPP...
I brought up this matchup a few days ago. I really like this Elon squad this year, and would have leaned to them in the opener at Umass had it not been for one simple fact. That Umass game preceded the first time a BCS school will have ever visited Elon for a basketball game. It's a pretty big advantage in terms of motivation for Elon tonight, and would probably lean that way. If South Carolina can go on the road and shoot 50% like they did in the opener, then yah they probably have a good shot at a win here. Interesting to point out, these two teams played last year to a really high scoring game and Elon outplayed SC for a matter of 31 of those 40 minutes.

Day Notes: There is a total of two day games I am interested in for today, and I will point towards the under in both. First up, Belmont and Memphis kick off what should be a really good game between two very experienced teams. I’m a little hesitant with this play, and hate the fact that it occurs in the middle of the day in the middle of the week which is rare for both teams, but I’m going to trust the matchups. Don’t get me wrong, both teams have the offense to put the ball in the hoop. Both teams will run at times, heck, Memphis has prepared all offseason to run even more than normal because they bring back so much experience. However, I just don’t think it’s in either teams interest to try and run in this one. Yes, there will be times that they can run, but both teams defense should slow the pace in this one. The case for the under really relies on a few key things here. First, both teams makeup are similar and both offenses look to a dribble-drive motion type of set on nearly every possession. The dribble-drive is effective in the fact that both teams have athletes that can get to the rim, and both teams have a few shooters if the slasher is unable to get to the rim. Going off that fact, both team defenses are familiar with the opponent’s offense. They run up against it every day in practice, so defensively, this is an easier game to step into. I think with the case of Memphis, they have looked vulnerable in the past, especially on offense. They haven’t taken care of the ball the past few years, and I’m not sure speeding up the process and getting out and running a faster game will help that cause, especially against a quality team like Belmont. They’ve yet to step on the court for a game, so I expect some hesitancy, especially in a morning game. Belmont’s coming off of their title game in the trip to Duke where they used everything they had to come back from a deficit to make the game close. Do I expect a letdown? Not really, but it is possible which adds more intrigue to the under. Basically, we have two really skilled offensive clubs, but we have two really great defensive teams that excel at stopping the exact sets the opponent will run in this matchup. What’s also similar from both teams is that when one builds a lead, they’ll use the dribble drive as an attempt to get some time off the clock. Like I had mentioned before, this is probably two top 50 offenses by season’s end, and both teams have playmakers, but what’s more important is the fact that both are probably 25 defenses, especially when they’re facing the exact kind of motion offense they practice for on a daily basis. In looking at the total, the mid 140’s is probably where it should be. But in looking at the matchups and how each team will prepare for the other, I just can’t see this game being played any other way than a slow half court “feel it out” style of play. I've had this total circled for a month, hoping that I would see a decent game defensively from Belmont at Cameron the other night, and I got glimpses. In the other day game, I also point to the under in Rhode Island/Texas. Rhode Island is coming of an OT game on the road and go into a tough place to play in Texas, against a really good young defensive squad. I will lean to the fact that I think Rhode Island struggles offensively after the OT game going on the road yet again. Texas is a little young to trust on the defensive side of things, but the roster turnover sort of puts me in the position that the defense won’t miss a beat, while the offense will struggle to put points on the board. Still, they should overpower Rhode Island here, and really take a stand defensively.
3* Belmont/Memphis Under 145
Lean: (Rhode Island/Texas Under 143)
Back with the night notes after a while.

Once you study what a coach wants to do or what that coach will do in certain situations, then you can make an educated guess what that coach will do in the situation that lies ahead. I don't think coaching is all that important in the grand scheme of team A being better than team B, but I believe it's one of the most important factors when looking at making a bet on team A or team B.
I guess with that, watch as much as you can, learn the teams as much as you can, but focus a lot of that on teams you aren't familiar with. ESPN3 throws up a ton of replays. I watched Virginia take on South Carolina State last night which was extremely pointless, but it gave me an idea of what Virginia brings to the table if I want to use them in a few matchups a couple weeks from now.

nropp, could you elaborate on you're 1*, 2*, 3* system. Do you wager more on your 3* plays or does that just mean that you feel more confident on those plays?
Thanks, and sorry if this question has already been answered in this thread.
