Recap:Easy hit with Morehead St/Ball St under which was only the 4th
total or so I’ve played all year.Lost
with Pitt 1H and game.
Tonight we should have a hell of a game
in Columbus. The line opened at -8 for
the Bucks, about what I expected. Purdue is coming off a tough home win against
Michigan St, but have lost their last 2 road games. However, in both of those games (losses @ Minnesota
and @ West Virginia) they had leads late in the 2nd half before not
being able to close the door.
I see a similar situation tonight as we
saw in both of those road games.Purdue
will be competitive, hang around all game and may have a couple bad stretches
here and there but won’t be a game where one team gets down by a wide
margin.FT and late game management will
determine this outcome.
The main focus is going to be the
match-up of the 2 best big-men in the country, although they potentially may
not defend each other.JaJuan and Sullinger,
in my eyes, present big mis-matches on the offensive side.Dallas Lauderdale is bigger and more physical
but too slow to play a center like JaJuan who can hit long range shots and
drive to the basket better than any other center in the country.Whoever is on Sullinger (if it’s not JaJuan)
is going to be a tough task.Purdue doesn’t
have a defensive stopper with size and mobility to match with him.I could see both players having big games.
The overall key though will be perimeter
shooting. With all the focus on JJ and
JJ, I wouldn’t be surprised to see lots a double teams and zone match-ups at
times, leading to open long range shots through the gaps. Both teams have great shooters, and for this
reason I see it being a relatively higher scoring game.
In the end, 8 points is just too much
for this type of game that will be physical and a battle from start to
finish.I don’t think Purdue wins it in
the end but it will be within a couple possessions.Last season Purdue won @ Ohio St. FYI.

I AGREE, PP. IT WOULD BE A BIG WIN FOR OUR BOILERS. GEEZ, I STILL CAN'T HANDLE HUMMEL BEING OUT FOR THE SEASON. I REALLY WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR TO SEE HOW FAR THIS TEAM COULD GO. LOSING HUMMEL LAST YEAR BEFORE THE TOURNEY COST THEM MAKING THE FINAL 4, IN MY OPINION. I GREW UP IN LAFAYETTE BEFORE MOVING TO FLORIDA IN 1978 DUE TO MY SON HAVING ASTHMA. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE BOILERS CLOSELY EVER SINCE. I DON'T MISS THE COLD BUT I DO MISS ATTENDING THE GAMES.
GOOD LUCK BUDDY.

I'd much rather be in florida than here in Indiana...I suppose going to some of the games is a plus though

Should be a great game tonight. I was impressed with Purdue on Saturday, the role players are what allow a team to win big in college basketball, and Purdue's role players did exactly what they needed to do. Jackson didn't even need to outplay Lucas for the Boilers to win, but he did significantly, that's why the DD margin at the end. But I noticed one glaring weakness for the Boilers, the interior defense, there was none. Delvon Roe has never had a game like that in his entire career. That's what scares me about the Boilers tonight, if Roe can go off like that, what the hell is Sullinger gonna do? Other than that, I see no reason why Purdue can't hang all night, and even have a shot at a SU win. JaJuan could have some trouble v.s. Lauderdale's physicality and reach, but IMO, there's no one in the country that can really "stop" JaJuan. So, if PU gets contributions from the "other guys" they should be able to stay within the number. Good luck, I don't go to many live games anymore but I did pick up some PU/MSU tickets for late February, I'm hoping MSU get's their heads out of their asses by then.

You are def. right about the lack of interior defense for Purdue. and that's why I expect Sullinger to have a big night. Lauderdale will be key tonight, because i could see Painter doubling Sully up almost every time he gets the ball in the low block leaving Dallas open if he gets in the right position. Travis Carroll will be in for a rude awakening, as a freshman only starting his 4th game of the year. I don;t expect Purdue to out rebound them by any means but containing the 2nd chance opportunities will be key.
Lewis Jackson has played terrific in the last 5 games, and will again be another factor with his penetration and dish ability. but if Purdue wants to be in this, it's up to making their long jumpers. Regardless it should be a close game as both teams match up pretty well with the exception that OSU has a couple more bigs to throw at Johnson.
Sparty will turn it around eventually but they have been living on the edge for a couple weeks now. They just aren't too consistent

This game reminds me of the Notre Dame v Pitt game last night everything pointed to a home win for the favorite but Notre Dame and Purdue are quality teams and quality teams are usually in every game I think Purdue getting 8 is a steal
