Purdue comes in after a nice 2nd Half performance against Austin Peay on Tuesday night, winning 87-65. Took A.P. in the 1H and covered pretty easily. It’s important to remember that Purdue is generally not a 1H team, so I try to stay away from taking Purdue in the 1H unless I happen to really like the play. For the game, we missed out by 2 points which still ticks me off . Painter left the starters in the game until there was only 2 minutes left and the game was far from over at that point, and then walk-on scrub Bubba Day hits a fade away 3 with under a minute to play.
Purdue leads the nation in assists/game which is impressive. Purdue does a great job at getting good looks and distributing the ball, leading to good possessions and which is why Purdue is averaging 87 ppg (17th in the country). S. Illinois also played Austin Peay two days earlier and won that game by 7 points (was only a 2 point game in the last 2 minutes).
Matt Painter came from S. Illinois before joining the Purdue coaching staff, so it could be a little extra motivation to beat the Salukis. S. Illinois is a pretty decent shooting team (48%) but don’t score a whole lot (63, 63, 72, 85). Should be a slower paced game then what we’ve seen from Purdue this year, although if Purdue keeps shooting like they have been from the perimeter (3-pointers made through 4 games - 13, 7, 11, 9) then it could get dicey for the Salukis.
JaJuan Johnson has been playing incredible for Purdue (3 double-doubles in 4 games), and E’Twaun Moore has been shooting lights out. With the emergence of some key role players like John Hart and Freshman Terone Johnson I see it being tough for S. Illinois to matchup with Purdue and its depth. My play:
PURDUE -11.5 (1U)
Only a small play as I feel this is a
pretty sharp line. May also play a
total, will wait and see on what we get
Other Plays:
UCLA PK (1U)
VILLANOVA -4 (3U)
UTEP -1 (1U)
Keep in mind I've been ice cold BOL today
