Others (waiting for better lines):
-FAU catches EKU in the ultimate let-down spot. I gladly played the Colonels in a great matchup at Miami on Friday, but this is a totally different set of circumstances. That win was EKU's biggest in a long, long time, and now they travel up the road to meet a far less exciting opponent. FAU shuts down the perimeter (26.0 % 3pt, fewest three attempts allowed in the country), which is where EKU gets quite literally all of its offense.
-Temple looks pretty mediocre thus far, but this should change rather quickly as they assimilate Jesse Morgan (UMASS transfer, All-A10 player) and Devon Coleman (Clemson transfer) into the lineup. Morgan started the other night at Delaware and scored 16 in his debut, and his presence allows Dunphy to return to his preferred 3-guard attack. Cummings and DeCosey are experienced all-conference players who should be able to go toe-to-toe with the KU guards, though I admittedly have concerns about the TU frontcourt. Jaylen Bond (Texas transfer) needs to have a really, really big game. Owls always seem to play well at the Wells Fargo Center against powerhouse programs. Upset possibility here.
-UCONN has already lost to one Ivy League team, and it could happen against on Monday night. You already know aboutColumbia: methodical, disciplined, and led by a legitimate guard (Maudo Lo, German national team). He'll have his hands full with Boatright, but this UCONN offense is hideous in the halfcourt, and as a national audience saw in the Columbia/Kentucky game, Columbia absolutely refuses to get beat in transition. This should be a real grinder, and UCONN should be very, very wary of this Columbia team. Additionally, it looks like Terrance Samuel may be out.
-GW has had eight days to stew over its poor effort in Happy Valley, and Lonergan is, in my opinion, the best tactician in the A-10. He's had more than a week to prep for this Ohio team, which made a pit stop in Evansville, Indiana for a game Thursday night on its way out to Hawaii for this tournament. I'm admittedly a little unsure what to make of this Ohio squad, as Phillips works on incorporating his principles that worked so well at North Dakota State. I do know that Lonergan will at times deploy the GW 1-3-1, which may present a problem for an OU team that doesn't really get to the free throw line. Not sure I'm willing to lay 7.5, but hopefully the line drops by tip-off.
I'm also interested in UCSB, Providence/Miami under, and the Wofford/WVU under.
