Richmond Spiders -6.5
I know this is a 'revenge' game for St. Joe's but this team is only 2-4 ATS this year in revenging road losses at home, so I'm not really concerned. The bottom line is that this game is more important for the Spiders. Why? Well, because Richmond is a 'bubble-team', currently in 3rd place in A10. They cannot afford a let-down against one of the worst teams in the conference. If they lose this game, and assuming they don't win the conference tourney, (I don't think they will) I don't see this team making it to the 'big dance'. That's why this game is crucial for them. Does St Joe's want to win this game? Of course they do. But even if they lose, they have a huge game against Charlotte coming up, where the winner will get the 12th and last spot in the conference tourney. If this team is down 10 points, how motivated will they really be in this one? The goal is to get to the conference tourney (this team has no shot at NCAAB tourney) and the game against Charlotte this Saturday will be the determining factor.
Statistically, we have the #2 most offensively efficient team in the conference (Richmond) going up against one of the most inefficient defensive teams in St Joe's. Both teams rely heavily on 3-ball for points but only of one of them is effective. Richmond leads the conference with a 40% 3PT FG percentage, while allowing 33% on defense. St Joe's on the other hand, is the worst team at defending 3PT shots in the A-10. They allow 40.2%, while only making about 33% of their own shots from 'downtown' on the offensive end. Neither team is very good at rebounding the ball, but the Spiders have the advantage in FT shooting and assits-to-TO ratio. Statistically, Richmond is clearly the more superior squad.
St Joe's is 3-7 ATS at home this year and 10-22 ATS at home in the past few years. This team just does not play well on their own home-court, and is constantly over-valued by the bookies. In addition they are 0-2 ATS as a home 'dog' in this spread-range. I see no reason why the more motivated Richmond squad, can't win this one by DD's.
Good luck!
