Best game of the night, and it ain't even close This is one of the 5 best rivalries in all of college basketball right now. Many expected it to lose a bit of luster when McCollum went down in the VCU game with the foot injury, but the Mountain Hawks turned around two week laters and won in Lewisburg. Last year, Lehigh finished a game back in the regular season standings but won the conference championship on BU's home floor in an amazing game. The year prior, Lehigh was the top seed and lost to 4th seeded Bucknell in the semis on its home floor. These two programs are ahead of the rest of the league by a laughable margin, and though much of the hype has centered on the whole "McCollum v. Muscala" battle, it's the role players who have decided the previous several meetings.
For all intents & purposes, a Lehigh win tonight locks up the regular season crown and homecourt advantage in the Patriot League tournament. The Mountain Hawks would go 1-up and hold the outright tiebreaker with only five games left. The first meeting was just an unusual set of circumstances as Bucknell had no idea how to go about defending Lehigh without McCollum. Keep in mind that McCollum was the focal point of the gameplan in the previous 8 meetings between the teams. Lehigh also banged in 10/18 threes, while Bucknell, normally a prolific outside shooting team (especially @ Sjoka), went 2/14 from distance. I fully expect Paulson to come with a markedly different gameplan tonight and the BU "role" players (Willman, Bry Johnson, Ayers) to step up in a major way.
