MTSU probably spent the entire week prepping for Sparty, NOT Syracuse. If they think they can have the same game plan vs. the Orange as they did against MSU they're gonna be in for a rude awakening. Boehiem's zone eats up teams that never played against them before.

syracuse isn;t that good. they're not deep and can't shoot or score. but mtsu is a team they should handle. this game could go down like the beatdown they put on ND a month ago.
want to hear something funny coming into the ACC tourney cooney was something like 26-100 in his previous 8/9games..lol..jimmy finally benched him in the second half vs fla st.

This is not the run of the mill 2-3 zone. They suffocate 3-pt shooters forcing you to shoot beyond the arc or take very contested shots. You need to be able to penetrate it and have a solid interior game to beat them. One reason some ACC teams had success against them this year is just because they had the talent to do so. I don't think MTSU does. They'll come back to reality. Might be a Cuse blowout.

I live in Syracuse and I agree, the cuse isn't that good. I also agree that a team who has 1 day to prepare will struggle against the 2-3 zone. I'm a firm believer that the point spread tells a story, and the story this line is telling is that Syracuse wins.

listen, Upshaw is the key to the victory. to break a zone like cuse's you need a skilled post player who flashes to top of the key/inside the lane and has the ability to dish the ball/shoot/drive to the basket. upshaw's shot lacks a little consistency but he thrives on these scenarios otherwise.he doesn't panic and will distribute accordingly. potts ans co will need to make shots, but they won't be overwhelmed by the zone
they can play in the 50's or the 80's

Has he done it before against a zone defense like Syracuse? You think one day to prep is enough and do you think they will be focused after hearing all the talk about the biggest upset of the tournament? It's really easy to ambush a power conference on day 1, but very hard to do on day 2. (See: Yale, Arkansas Little Rock). SFA and MTSU are facing the same fate today.
Hey, if MTSU plays two near perfect games in a row then they can have my money.
With the exception of Pitt, the ACC teams have been straight handling their business SU/ATS in this tournament.

Cuse is a 10 seed cause Jimmy B had to sit for those games, resulting in 4 more losses. They are an very underestimated 10 seed.
Their defense is a matter of making the other guys shoot 3s. So, if MT is making them and Cooney is lobbing up bricks, we have an upset on our hands.
Cooney has been a non-factor for weeks. Cuse followers know this. They handled Dayton with EASE even with Cooney's brick lobbing. Cuse's young players have been stepping up recently.
If you bet MTSU, you're betting that they're gonna hit 60% from 3 point land again and run wild and free like they did against MSU. Cuse doesn't let teams do that against them.

I am not betting this game but I really think cuse will dominate this game inside. If cuse can dominate a game inside as they did against Dayton it will be a big win for cuse. If you think the way to beat cuse zone is firing threes you will lose all day unless you hit 50%.

I bet people didn't take the time to see that MSU outrebounded MTSU. Meanwhile Cuse outrebounded Dayton (who is a waaay better rebounding team than MTSU) 45-27. It's clear that Boeheim told his team to focus on defending the three and rebound and they have responded.
I doubt that MTSU expected to win and just wanted to give MSU a run for their money. They played hard, got all the right bounces and were hot from 3 and won.

To finish my thought MTSU probably still can't believe they won. They're going to be a deer in headlights in my opinion. Once they start missing their threes and can't get out on the break, they don't have the offensive efficiency or go-to stud to hang with the Orange.
