Miami-Cuse IF this game stays in the 120's it will take 4 or 5 possessions to get over the impost. That's a lot in a low scoring game. Like the Canes to hang in a slow paced defensive grinder with points hard to come by.
Mich St-Iowa. I've been riding Sparty hard since their season opener vs Kansas. Been doing the same with the with the Sooners and Zaga's
march thru the West. I've had great success playing against WV and fading Xavier and TX Tech regularly. Like a rat going back to the same hole to get some cheese. See no reason to stop until I get burnt real good.
Normally, I would be all over the home dog vs a ranked team with a sold-out raucous atmosphere that will surely be present at Carver- Hawkeye Arena. But I see no reason to buck Sparty here. What's not to like? They play great hard nosed team defense. They hit the glass as good as anybody, Ward and Tillman are mobile bangers. Offensively they are as good as anybody, they can all shoot the ball. Goins has been lighting it up, McQuaid can stroke it too. Cassius is the best floor general in the country, knows when to push the break or pull it up and run their sets. They can play the fast or slow tempo.
Izzo has been playing the freshman recently to build their depth even more.
They have won 20 consecutive Big 10 games and they have been on a pointspread tear this season.
When Langford returns from injury lookout. I think they win the Big 10 and have a Final 4 appearance in their reach.
I like and respect the Hawkeye team and they can definitely score the ball, especially at home where they have one of the best home court advantages in the country. Just think that Sparty has the defensive edges all around in this matchup, I look for St to contest the Hawkeyes deep trey attempts. Sparty will have a rebounding advantage as well.
Gotta give the coaching edge to Izzo in the Big Game here.
Lay it.

Revenge can be a big motivator, especially in Conference play in a short turnaround. St Mary's beat BYU 88-66 on Jan 5. Now the Cougs get their rematch in the Marriot where they are 10-1 so far and there will probably be 19K rabid fans in attendance. But I just don't think it is going to happen.
This BYU team plays the same style of game that Marshall does. They like to go up and down in a fast paced tempo and get up as many shots as possible basically just trying to outscore their opponent. Most of the time they shoot with no more than 2 or 3 passes. In fact they are # 29 in offensive pace. But they just don't play enough defense for my liking. Just about all their defensive efficiencies are #200+.
This St Mary's team is a smart and savvy team with a high basketball IQ. Definitely a well coached and well drilled team. The Gaels play both ends of the floor and are a well balanced team. They move well without the ball on offense, screen for each other, and pass the ball really good. And they can all shoot it. Jordan Ford his for 46% behind the arc and Malik Fitts strokes it at 40% from trey land. As a team they shoot 40 from 3 and 49 % overall.
On defense the Gaels hold opponents to 43% fg overall and 30% from 3. So with St Mary's you get the best shooting team from distance and the best defensive team contesting the 3 ball attempts. For sure you get the best defensive team in this matchup tonight.
St Mary's has played the better schedule without question. They have played @ Miss, Harvard, LSU, WKY, @ SF to name a few.
The Gaels are 4-1 in the WCC and need this game to stay in the hunt and possibly continue building their resume for an at large berth in the Tourney since they are not likely to beat out Zaga.
I just think that the Gaels are the better all around team here tonight and I think they show up to play for the national tv crowd.
Add 1* St Mary's -1 FG ( That makes a total of 2* on FG)
