Rare opportunity to post as my workload has picked up significantly.
Yes, I know, Northern Iowa is no longer available at +13, but that is where I played it before going to bed last night. To address the inevitable question, yes, I would still play it at the current number.
Northern Iowa +13 (2 units) Northern Iowa ML +535 (0.5 unit) Had this spot picked out a few weeks ago as Creighton's first MVC loss. UNI has proven to be a miserable matchup for the Jays, who have steamrolled through the league and are exponentially improved on the defensive end in comparison to last year's iteration. Unfortunately for Creighton, last year's matchup problems are likely to manifest themselves once again. UNI is really, really good at controlling tempo, and in last year's two meetings, the Panthers kept the games at 58 and 60 possessions, respectively. Rather impressive considering Creighton averaged 67 on the season. This is due in part to Jacobson's emphasis on transition defense. Koch and Tuttle are both really solid offensive rebounders, but their first priority is getting back to stop the opposition from getting easy baskets.
CU has trouble with small, quick guards - James and Mitchell are probably the two fastest guys off the dribble in the entire MVC. On the interior, the Koch & Tuttle combination gave McDermott issues last season. In the game in Omaha, he tallied 15 points and only attempted two long balls. A month later in Cedar Raipds, he was held to 18 points on just 11 shot attempts. Certainly efficient, but nowhere near the number of touches to which he is accustomed. I'm admittedly concerned about Northern Iowa's shoddy 3-point defense, especially considering Creighton's prolific numbers in Omaha.
I'm not saying Creighton will be flat or unprepared, but with a trip to Wichita looming on Saturday in a game that could give the Jays a commanding two-game lead in the conference, I suspect we will not see their best performance.
Also: Notre Dame PK/EMU +6.5 -120 (1 unit)

Creighton players have gone on record on local radio as saying wich st is the team they are looking forward to playing most...I would prefer this be a game against one of the weaker teams in the conference laying a huge number to truly play the look ahead spot but I still think its worth taking the points here also. I hate playing against this creighton team because of the potential on offense and because of their depth they keep quality players on the court long after games are out of hand, but this is one of the better spots to fade them this year. Good luck

JFen, thanks for stopping in. My handicapping suffered immensely during law school. You have to keep grinding on that JD, though, as it seems like less than 5% of grads are getting jobs as lawyers these days. I look forward to any time you can post. Good luck.

Nice job again nice seeing you hit some bigger plays this year. As I remember the last few years your max was 1.5units but I might be wrong. The loss of koch twice in this game in foul trouble secured the win for CU. Only if NI could've hit a couple more threes it wouldd've been closer
