Tough day yesterday as I took a bad line on Texas at a PK and Penn/Princeton went over the total by 24 points despite playing just a 60 possession game. Combined 58% shooting will do that, I guess. Anyway, on to today:
Kansas State +1 @ Iowa State (1 unit) Several reasons to like the road team tonight in Ames. The first is obvious; ISU's win over Kansas on Saturday was a season-definer and gave the 'Clones a signature win for their growing NCAA resume. It also avenged an earlier loss to Kansas at the Phog from a few weeks ago. Now, they welcome in a pissed-off Kansas State team that suffered a rare home loss on Saturday. I absolutely love betting Frank Martin's team after an upset defeat as he almost always has them amped up and ready to play. I suspect Iowa State will be hard-pressed to match KSU's energy level and intensity as getting "up" for consecutive games, especially after knocking off a Top 5 opponent and conference leader, is not an easy thing to do. Martin's team is relentless on the offensive glass and does a terrific job of shutting down the 3-point line, which is a huge part of Iowa State's offense. McGee, Christopherson, Allen, and Babb have each attempted at least 83 treys this season. They also have a slew of big, physical bodies to throw at Royce White. Ultimately, I think KState's overwhelming depth (10-man rotation) wins them this game in a tough environment. My primary concern is KSU's free throw struggles in tight games, though Spradling (80%) and McGruder (76%) are more than capable of sealing things from the stripe.

I will add, however, that Iowa State has made me a ton of money this year (including this past Saturday) and is one of the most intriguing teams to watch in the country. Hoiberg has done a phenomenal job meshing the transfers (White, Babb, Allen, Booker) and I sincerely believe they have a strong chance to make a run to the Big 12 title game in March if the pieces fall into place.
Just not a fan of the spot for them tonight.

Jfenn... Long time reader Been hitting on these ml parlays lately which I kinda like. I like northern Iowa at home as one of the teams w the money line. Any thoughts on them against southern illonois. Also thinking about parlaying wiscy ml. Any thoughts. Penn state is horrible.

What type of payout are you looking for? Putting those two together pays less than -200. Not worth the risk, IMO, as road teams can be awfully unpredictable. Penn State is good for one or two big upsets per year. That said, Wisconsin should win.
How about adding Kentucky to it?

I agree with this.......Allen is the only that doesn't really "get it" yet....the rest of them are starting to mesh pretty well. Booker is a very big body and can also stretch the defense from the 3 point line. I also agree about them having the ability to advance in the Big 12 tourney....Iowa State represents well when the tourney is in KC, so they will have a lot of support.
I just don't think KSU has been defending very well for the last few games.....I've watched all of them and they have really been lacking in my opinion.......the problem with KSU is talent, they are limited from a talent perspective...no way a team should get swept by OU if they are very good at all.....and OU beat them up pretty good in both Norman and Manhattan....
GL tonight

Jfenn.... I no its a bad risk but I think it's better just to parlay it and lose 5 then put -825 down and lose it. I mite make 150 but better than losing the 825 or something higher.

Opposite on this one today. KSU was in a similar spot coming off a blown home game to Baylor and I thought they would be pissed and come out and play hard and promptly got beat at Oklahoma. This KSU team just isn't playing very well right now and pissed or not don't think they have the firepower to pull off this win on the road against an ISU team that is starting to come together. Have a hard time seeing the Wildcats win at Hilton tonight.

I always thnk the "pissed-off" teams set up well for 1H plays, but I can't usually convince myself to base a whole-game bet on that factor alone. Same reason I'm on Seton Hall +4.5 1H tonight.

Kruger has Martin's number. He's beaten him 3 straight times and gives KSU problems with the press and stingy half-court defense.
Hilton is certainly a tough place to play and one of the more underrated venues, IMO.

I also liked K St initially and may still end up playing them but two things that stuck out that may sway me to the other side (or no play):
Iowa St riding the momentum. After upseting Texas earlier this season (when it was a huge deal), they went to aTm and crushed them a couple of days later.
K St lost a close one to Baylor at home and then went to Oklahoma and lost by 9. They don't always bounce back....

I fear a KSU ticket when Chris Babb remembers how to shoot. It seems like ISU goes how he goes and the 'Cats offense really pisses me off. I agree the spot is to die for, just not confident in keeping pace if ISU hits their shots at home

JFen- All over Kstate also. This is just a great spot to back this team and as you said Frank Martin should have this team fired up. With the intensity that guy has imagine KState will play balls to the wall tonight. Only thing scaring me is the BIG 12 isnt easy to win on the road.
Anyways I was wondering your thoughts on Kent St @ Central Mich. I am leaning Kent St.
Thanks in advance and GL

I think I've seen Iowa State 6 or 7 times this year, and in every game one of the shooters (Babb, Christopherson, Allen) has had a huge night. I'm hoping that this KState perimeter defense can take some of those guys out of their comfort zones, but it almost seems inevitable that one of them will hit 4 or 5 treys.
Luckily, I won't be able to watch any of it, which is a good thing considering how ugly KState games tend to be.

I would rank the Big 12 right up there with the A-10 and B1G in terms of hardest conferences to win on the road this season. KState has done it twice, albeit against bottom-dwelling teams.
Kent State certainly should take care of CMU, but the Chipps are going to eventually play a game to their potential and I don't want to be on the opposite side when it inevitably happens. Kent State playing a second consecutive road game is enough to keep me away, but I'd lean their way if forced to pick a side.
