Time to DIG IN. Will post my ratings for the end of the 2023 season - first I have to figure out who the hell is even in this conference these days!! Over the years I've learned thing, the ratings I come up with are a great starting point for capping a game, but nothing is more important than the matchups on the field & the performance from the coaching staff is also undervalued imo.
While I work on this - try to tell me this doesn't get you fired up. If it doesn't... make sure you have a pulse!!

Lots of turnover here with many staff members joining Jim Harbaugh in LA. Less concern given it's Sherrone Moore who is taking over at HC. The offense has been built around strong OL play the past few seasons and Sherrone is the heart of that. Yes Michigan lost all 5 starting OL and 1 more, but this was a deep group and there are guys who have been waiting for their turn who know step into the starting role. Michigan returns only 53 career starts on the OL which is good for 103rd in the nation. The last time they had this little production was 2021 & the OL won the Joe Moore award. I have little concern that Sherrone won't have this unit up to par in 2024. The O should continue to be built on controlling the LOS, T.O.P, and running the football. Colston Loveland is a stud at TE, another guy who's not talked about is Marlin Klein who is my pick to be a breakout player in the Michigan offense. Complete overhaul at WR, but replaceable pieces with 'next up' imo. The QB position is the biggest loss. Yes Michigan has been built on running the ball, but JJ was incredible. Could make any throw, pretty good decision maker, made timely plays when called on. Have said this since last winter, but still think he is going to be the best of the QB's selected in the 2024 draft. Alex Orji is a freak, but really not sure he has the respect as a thrower of the football at this point. He's going to see the field but I think Tuttle/Warren are better options for what Michigan needs - which is a game manager similar to 2021 Cade McNamara.
The defense is going to be the heart of this 2024 team. Quite possibly the best in the country. The DL returns Josiah Stewart, Kenneth Grant, Mason Graham, and Derrick Moore. These guys were out there to stop Alabama on 4th down to win the Rose Bowl, and blowing up the Joe Moore winning Washington OL in the national title game. The DT's are quite possibly 1/2 in the country. Derrick Moore is a dude whos been waiting his turn and I think overall this unit is better than 2023. The depth is the key - but Rayshaun Benny returns plus highly regarded players like Enow Etta and TJ Guy have been generating some buzz to fill in those backup roles. I love the LB group with transfer Barham and Hausmann stepping into a starting role. The secondary is led by CB Will Johnson who is arguably the best corner in the nation. Opposite him im expecting Jyaire Hill who i think is going to be a star. Inexperienced so will see how he comes along. The loss of Rod Moore hurts but rumor has it he isn't done for the season. Regardless Makari Paige is back and a slew of transfers including Wes Walker from Tennessee. Mike Sainristil is going to be impossible to replace at NB, he was a stud.
I'm a Phil Steele guy, and overall I think his assessment of the DL being weaker is poor at best. My concern for the OL is low - iron sharpens iron and the 1's couldn't ask for more of a challenge in practice. McCarthy and Corums production will be really tough to replace. I think a game manager at QB is enough to get this team in the CFP mix given the schedule. Anything more has them set up for a run. I think this continuation of 'NFL style' defensive schemes will yield results. I look at the B1G and I really don't see any experienced QB's who are going to be NFL guys. The biggest issue for a college QB imo is learning to read defenses & that's why so many good ones in CFB never pan out at the next level. I think Michigan's defense is going to be one of the nations best & I think some of the higher flying offenses are going to have quite a tough time vs this unit not only bc of the talent but the scheme as well.

Will start with Michigan.

Really looking forward to Ducks being in the Big 10 playing quality games .....man, the debate on who is stronger (SEC or BIG 10) will be something to watch out for (Texas a great pick up for SEC)
Best of luck and going to lean on your expertise sometimes....all the best and thanks.
Proving is hard. Talk is easy.

Thanks brother lets see how my numbers change with the addition of some different types of offenses not typically seen in the B1G style of play. Will take 4-5 weeks of games before we have a good feel on where teams will shake out.
Concerns for the top dogs for me is QB/OL/Coaching for OSU. Secondary/Head Coach for Oregon. QB, overall depth for Michigan. Also could have some off field issues, if Moore gets suspended for any length of time in relation to the sign stuff the staff doesn't quite have the experience as last years team. Penn St has to be HC along with QB - will Allar finally realize his potential? Can't forget how bad he was in the big games last year. He didn't look capable of playing at the college level. Also hearing there could be some off field issues brewing for Penn St - does James Franklin coach this whole season? Schedule is favorable if they avoid off field distractions & Allar makes a step forward.
I'm high on Nebraska and Iowa - think that last game of the season may have major implications!

Great assessment. I watched Penn St.'s playbook handling of Allar in the big games and was not impressed with what the coaches were doing with him.
I hope they open it up and trust his arm downfield

Haha that’s just the stats my friend, no bias. As a Michigan alum I was sad to see you guys weasel out of that Mel Tucker situation!! That was the BIGGEST W for msu honestly saved you guys 10 years of misery. I like your new HC, but give him a year or 2 to turn things around. He wasn’t left with much.
