BYU @ UConn

Question

I am new here but have been following the action on here since last summer. I decided this year I would try to help out and contribute as much as possible and also try to learn a few things at the same time.

There are a few games that aren't getting much attention, so I figured we can talk it out and see if we can find some value within.

BYU (-17) @ UConn

I know UConn almost beat Michigan last year (Probably should have), but is this team really capable of slowing down a BYU offense that should be more consistent compared to last year??

BYU: 8 Off returning. All 5 Line Return (4 seniors and a freshman who is coming back from a torn pectoral)

T. Hill is back after 1344yds rushing (10TDs) and 2938yds passing (19TDs/10Ints)

UConn has a new HC in B. Diaco (ND DC/LB) who should help the defense out in the long run after he can get some talent there.

UConn Defense gave up 30.3 ppg last year even though they won their final 3 games.

I just don’t see how UConn will be able to stop T. Hill from running all over them and this from being a blowout.

What do you guys think?

Welcome to Covers and this forum.Thank you foroffering your perspective on this matchup.I favor BYU as well although when it opened at - 13 , itwas a lot more attractive to me than it is now.as I usuallydo not like to lay double digits to a road team  with UTon deck and would probably pass on this game at it&#x27;scurrent price.Best of Luck to you and Welcome

Like this play a lot. I see a 31-10 35-13 type game here. Uconn shouldn&#x27;t score more than 10-13 pts. BYU very solid offensively.

2 things to consider...&#xD;&#xA;BYU lost to UVA 16 to 19 last season in the first game...you know, that must be on their minds.  last season, UVA was not considered much batter than a rebuilding UCONN is now.   UCONN finished strong last season, and have done well at home.   I think these factors, will facilitate a uber prepared and mature byu team in week 1.&#xD;&#xA;second, Bronco knows that BYU will not show up and beat a talented and revenge minded Texas team with a half cocked effort against UCONN.   BYU will need to come out at a high level from the GETGO to have any chance against Texas.   I think from a mental perspective, BYU will come out and execute their game plan, to somewhat simulate the battle with Texas.   I think their solid D will want to absolutely destroy a marginal UCONN O, and they will want to refine their passing game (to go along with their prolific running game) so they will able to keep Texas on edge.    Texas lost at BYU last season.    Texas was only favored by 3, but should have won that game by more.    BYU is a solid team, and I don&#x27;t think they will hold anything back against UCONN.   BYU has had some recent troubles in road openers, but I don&#x27;t think this game with UCONN will be a problem.&#xD;&#xA;BYU 35&#xD;&#xA;UCONN 10

Have to take UConn here considering they are 19-4 last 23 as a home dog. I really like Cochran at QB, UConn's pass game was greatly improved when he started including a school record 461 yards passing their last game vs Memphis. BYU was 0-3 as a road fav last year, I think they escape with a 28-24 win.

tsw - you can not almost entirely cap a game based on a historical angle...UCONN has a new coach, new systems, and a lot of new starters...BYU will be motivated by the unexpected loss to UVA in the 1st game last season. Plus, they have Texas in week 2. Normally, a look a head would be perceived as a distraction. I believe that BYU will come out of the gate very focused and at a level of intensity that they will need to have any chance to upset Texas in Austin. Bronco will know that they will not be able to go through the motions against UCONN then turn it on against Texas. This does not bode well for UCONN. BYU has an outstanding D, a highly experienced O Line, and an elite QB and starting RB. I did see the stats, along with BYU not performing that well in recent years in road games out of the gate. But, I believe you must consider the motivation of each team and the talent differential in this matchup. This lined opened around BYU -13 and it is currently up to BYU -17 which sounds about right. I believe BYU will systematically and methodically destroy UCONN in this game.

At &#x2B;17, Uconn is the right side.  This line is a trap for BYU bettors, don&#x27;t underestimate UCONN at home under the lights of friday night.

Very tempted to take BYU here, mainly for all the reasons LongHorn mentioned above in post #8, however.... I'm gonna stay away from this one simply because UConn is an unknown commodity right now.

With the Huskies ending the season the way they did, even though there was a regime change (which is another unknown) and BYU's history under Bronco as a fav + on the road + in week one + cross country travel.

I really want BYU here but i just can't, with the new coaching staff having too much experience & too much potential as well as UConn's history as a home dog.

jayharp - that is a reasonable perspective.    UCONN dominated  respectable Memphis and Rutgers teams at home (both as dogs) to end last season with a temp head coach.   I stand by my position, but this is probably only my 6th or 7th ranked pick at this point.   There may be more value elsewhere per Wise comment above...

This is why I chose to join this site!I love when we have spirited debate that will help others realize certain things that they may have overlooked. I completely understand some people are more conservative than others and some reach to the aggressive side and to each their own. Eighty-Five, welcome brother! I&#39;ve got two things for ya: 1. In my opinion I wouldn&#39;t lay this road chalk with BYU.. Taysom Hill is a quality college QB, he can def make plays and score some points... I&#39;m just a little leary to fire on BYU just yet without there 2 captains on Defense ( Kyle Van Noy, Justin Sorenson) and the loss of their Best WR for thr last three years ( Cody Hoffman) I think BYU as a &quot; team&quot; with look a little different than what you&#39;ve grown accustom to in the past. Taysom Hill is a beast though.. lol 2. We have had two openings in our Sun Belt Conference Capping Team open up.. you can see whst we are about in our thread.. you interested??? BOL either way..

guys - BYU is going blow out UCONN in week 1. again, they can't just show up in Austin and expect to upset (forecast spread Texas -7) a Texas Team bent on revenge. These are mature Morman men with a strong OL against a UCONN new 3-4 D. It appears that the spread is now around -18. I wish it were -16, but I still believe there is value here. Those of you who are just looking at the ATS history of BYU and UCONN and basing your (that's a lot of chalk on the road) perspective...need to evaluate the current matchup, the current talent differential, and the current motivation of each teams. UCONN will be trotting out with new coaches new systems, and a lot of new starters. BYU will trot out with a finely tuned Offensive machine. Call me a contrarian, but I like BYU in this matchup minus the current chalk...

also, with the Golden Nugget GOY opening, the sharps drove this line up from -14...what does that tell you...

if I am wrong on this one, you UCONN backers can come back and give me grief...
