Can Oregon Stop Cam Newton In The Championship?

the Ducks offense has looked sub-par these last few games...I realize they still put up points but that is not going to cut it to a real deal team Auburn. I could honesltly see Oregon getting blown out

You do realize this is Chizik's 2nd year as head coach right?  And that he took a team left in shambles by Tuberville's last few years(Tub's last year going 5-7), and posted an 8-5 record with a slow footed white QB that had a bum arm in his first year.  And then turned around and signed one of the top recruiting classes in the nation.

Sounds like he was really on a downhill slide there.

I'll be sure to let him know all of his gameplans have stunk this year.  Must be nice to get paid millions of dollars per year to put out crap gameplans but yet somehow end up undefeated.

I absolutely cannot stand Cam Newton and Auburn for that matter....but Auburn will blow out Oregon.....this will probably be the biggest bet out of all the bowls....I think this is a huge mismatch

If you want to continue to think that, be my guest.  Cam Newton is one of the best players in college football this season, and he ELEVATES Auburn's offense to another level.  He takes a solid offense and makes it exceptional.

Take him away and your still left with one of the best o-lines in the country, which is the key for any offense.  If you've got a great line, then you can average skill position players and they will look good, but if you have a great o-line and great skill position players, and an elite QB, then you get the gaudy offensive numbers you've seen Auburn put up frequently this year.

He's a special player and if you want to believe it's only him, be my guest.

You are seriously reaching there going back to look at games against Clemson at the beginning of the season and the homecoming game against Chattanooga.

You do realize all of those games for both teams are just about meaningless when it comes to Jan. 10 contest.

Please tell me you aren't banking an expected performance based of the results of a game played more than 3 months ago.

If alabama didnt keep turning the ball over in the red zone, which auburn didnt force, then auburn isnt even here. They played like 4 road games and have no defense. Oregon wins this game. They wont stop newton or the rest of the auburn offense but auburn cant stop them either

I hope you realize Oregon & Auburn both have identical offensive philosophies.  Both try to slowly wear down the opponent over the course of the game along with continually increasing the tempo of the offense as the opponent's defense starts to wear out. 

It's like looking in a mirror.

But I suspect there will be a difference in gameplans come gametime.  I think Auburn will try to take it's chances in playing a ball control time consuming ground game attempting to take advantage of a size advantage between AU o-line and Oregon d-line.

Obviously the end goal being to limit Oregon's possessions and keep the duck offense on the sideline and out of rhythm.

I seriously doubt Malzahan will go up tempo and engage in a shootout unless Auburn is either trailing or has a lead and trying to blow the game open.

i can assure you Oregon will not get blown out... Oregon might blow out Auburn, but they won't get blown out... most likely a great game... Oregon will basically score at will against Auburn... the game will come down to whether or not Auburn can keep pace...

We rotate 20 players on defense. We won't be tired.

You may run a similar philosophy, but we run it better.

Seriously............let it go.  It was a great game, and only 1 team was able to walk away with the win.  This year it Auburn was fortunate enough to take iron bowl honors.

And I'm sorry but Auburn did force the redzone turnovers.  Greg didn't just drop back and throw the ball on the ground and watch Auburn jump on it for fun.  And Ingram didn't throw the ball through the endzone for a touchback just for shits and giggles.

I know the sentiments from East Coast observers is that Oregon is a gimmick.

That's going to be the fatal flaw in this game.

I can admit Auburn is good, but Auburn won't respect Oregon. Oregon deals with teams as "faceless opponents." We execute our gameplan, and we win. That's our philosophy.

You have lost your mind if you think the 'east coast' thinks Oregon is a gimmick.

And you've really lost you mind if you think Auburn doesn't respect Oregon.

I know you've got a chip on your shoulder and all, but geez.

Actually I would go as far to say that many college football fans out there have no respect for Auburn or Oregon and think both are gimmick teams since neither has an 'elite' defense.

Apparently the mindset is you can only be considered a great team if you field an 'elite' defense.  Well both the ducks and tigers blew that axiom out of the water this year.

I'd say it's a tad premature to claim what side the majority is on.

Auburn is obviously going to get more 'props' right now because they had a blowout win last weekend in the SEC title game and because most likely Newton will win the heisman.

But that by no means the action will be on Auburn.

Keep embracing the underdog role though if it works for you.  I guarantee Auburn is doing the same 'us against the world' thing.

My family (dad) is a huge donor for the UO (not Phil Knight level), so we secured our tickets early. It's sad that both school only get 17K tickets, and all of those are accounted for with no GA seating available. The championship is more about business, and less about the fan.

Does your father have access to any more tickets?  We've been season ticket holders/donors at Auburn for 15 years and we just missed the cumulative contribution total they decided to put in place for doling out the tickets.

I couldn't agree more.  It's absolute BS each school only gets 17K tickets.  I am so ticked off we are alums and been donating for 15 years just to be told to piss off when it comes to BCS tickets.

Upper decks are going for 700-800 a seat right now.
