not till at least 2013...and id say thats a long shot. i know some major television networks have contracts with the ncaa to broadcast bowl games up through 2012....thats the earliest we could see any changes. even though a playoff would be the most entertaining for viewers...you have to view it from a players standpoint. im sure there are teams that feel screwed every year and would love a play off...but football is not basketball. you cant have these teams play consecutive games on back to back nights...or even every other night for that matter... because bodies wouldn't hold up. injuries would be happening left and right. if you want a 16 team playoff...you have to give these guys plenty of rest between games. One game a week? so what does that mean? extend the season 2 months? Not happening. I agree change needs to be made...maybe a playoff but with less teams...i cant wait to see how this issue works itself out over the years.

+1 is the way to go. It keeps the college football season as important and exciting as it always has been. You get to keep the tradition and $$$$ of all the bowl games as well. They need to add one more BCS game, maybe Capital One Bowl(Orlando is going to renovate Citrus Bowl), or the Cotton Bowl. Then rotate the two games that will feed to the BCS title game every year, and continue the rotation of title game location. BCS title game should be around the 10th of January every year. But as someone said earlier, Rose Bowl and Pac-10 are the big problem to this scenario. Maybe we will get it one day, but, until then, sorry to the 3rd and 4th best teams according to the the polls.

first you will have to decide how to choose the best 16 teams in the country, correct?
the current ranking system is very questionable in my opinion...
I do agree that there should be a playoff system, but again, how would they decide on the best 16 teams?

it would extend the season by 4 weeks and there is already a 4 or 5 week gap between conference championships and bowl games....playoffs wouldnt really extend anything, and it would keep these shitty teams like Boise St. from bitching when their shitty team doesnt make the NC

The bottom line is that the system will not change in the forseeable future. T.V. contracts are signed, and the BCS Conferences are all aboard. So wait until 2014 for your arguments. All they do is take up space now. Most unfortunate, but true.
Another reason why this will not happen is the absolute logistical nightmare this poses. If you are the #9-16 team, it is quite possible that your team travels to three different venues in 3 weeks. A nghtmare for the fans, the teams, and the administrations. Cut it down to an 8 team playoff, and you still have major problems. Then their is the Bowl situation. The Rose Bowl sells out every year, no matter who is playing. Can anyone explain to them how they will generate more money going to some different system? What about the Rose Parade, which means nothing to football fans, but everything to the Rose Bowl Committee. Do you really think that the Rose Bowl would allow a game to be played on a day other than New Years Day? If you do, comtinue to dream on. It will never happen.
