first game of the week, first Question ... NIU -35

During the normal course of this season this game is probably a final score of 63-0.  As the last regular season game,  does NIU pull the plug early to maintain health for the MAC championship game? It's probably senior night, do the non-starting seniors get some extra playing time once the game is in the bag, or even before then? Does any of this matter against woeful WMU?  

The heisman is truly a mystery now with Mariotta, Manziel, and Petty suffering major blows to their campaigns, and Winston's future being unknown at this time.  It would be an insane longshot for Lynch to win it, but do they put a saddle on him and push him as close to the top as they can get him?

So many questions on what should be a slam dunk.

My initial thought is to lay the points.  WMU is not good, even for a MAC team.  NIU cannot afford a close game and risk falling in the human polls.  That certainly doesn't guarantee a 35 point win, but I think they have the fire-power to win by that much.  

A TT over might be worth a look too, as I just don't see WMU keeping NIU under 50.  Not sure where it will be out at though.

Thank you for your input! The original poster has made some valid points on this game, so I am interested in hearing if others feel the same way.

I think there are more than enough reasons for NIU to keep the pedal to the metal. Lynch may end up with 400 rushing yards. TT is a good thought as well. Thank you for your input to this point. And thanks for bumping urban.

So based on that, you'd probably have a TT around 49.5.  Could be doable for sure.

The Mac is a league where the best teams beat the pooper scoopers by 7 TDs, not 4. 

NIU should be up around 38-7 at half and cruise. 

I'll call for 59-13. 

The spread shouldn't come into play.

For what its worth, my system has this as a pretty strong play, with Northern Illinois winning by no less than 38

NIU has the power to cover easily and they need to run up score to stay ahead of Fresno St.
Only 1 small concern is that WM new Head Coach PJ Fleck is NIU alum, ex-WR, and ex-assistant coach for NIU. Do not know how much NIU will take mercy on them. Any input on this?

First half is a better bet (-24?) to avoid back door cover. NIU should be able to put at least 28-0 or 35-3 at half time.

also remember the zeebs tomm nite... after all this is the MAC... a huge payday for the school and conf is on the line if Huskies can claim that BCS-buster spot like last year v FSU.

Pretty much not chance WMu hangs in this one or NIU lets up...they got too much riding with a BCS spot and a Heisman canidate they need to get some monster stats and ESPN air time....Only game on tomorrow. Gonna be 14 degress with the wind chill. WMU is 117th in the nation giving up 234 rypg....Not good vs NIU who averages 309 rypg which is 7th in the nation. NIUs defensive weakness is in the passing department where they rank 111th, but WMU wont be able to capitalize as they are 81st in that category and the weather condition are gonna be brutal.

sorry but you dont think beating a undefeated team is something to play for?  dont care if you are 0-14.  if you have a chance to ruin someone's perfect season, thats your superbowl right there.  now if they have the skills to do so..prolly not.  but nothing to play for is the worst statement you can make.

If its -35 and o/u of 63, Vegas is implying a final of 49-14

Team total should be o/u 48.5 and 13.5 to attract action on over.

1H total will probably be 33.5
Spread maybe -23.5
NIU TT o/u 27.5 1H
WMU TT o/u 5 1H (might see o/u 3.5)
