Congrats on everyone that was on Hawaii last night for the opener!
On to my first breakdown of the year........
BAMA/USC
I look at an Alabama team that has a lot of questions coming into weak one. Who is the QB? How can we replace 6 starters on Defense? Well the answer is simple. Recruiting. Alabama opened the in the early line as a 10 point neutral site favorite over the men of Troy. I see some value there, but not much relative to these questions. However, the weakness that I think will be exploited comes in the hands of USC's defense. I see nothing wrong with SC's Offense as they return the entire O line and have good skill position experience at almost all levels. The problem on Defense comes in the way of only four returning starters and none of which are on the defensive front, which spells trouble in my eyes. Throw in only one Sr. and hardly no experience at the LB position and that plays right into the hands of a Nick Saban pace-controlled game. The biggest mismatch of the game comes in at the Tight End position for Bama. After accounting for Calvin Ridley and Co. and the one-two punch of Bo and Damien Harris you into the real problem. Having a frosh LB or the only returning LB in Cameron Smith(recovering from torn Ligaments) out on an island to cover OJ Howard. Who is a great route runner and a deceptively fast WR in my eyes who just so happens to play TE for blocking purposes. You all saw what he could do to one of the best Defenses in the country last year in the title game against Clemson. I expect there to first game jitters for both teams and look for each to rely on good defense and field position. For whoever starts at QB(I expect Cooper Batemen to take the first snap) I look for Kiffin to run quick hitters and tunnel screens to kind of get them into a groove and let our Defense led by the best pass rusher in the country in Tim Wiliams and our four potential All-Americans in the secondary control the SC offense. If the line keeps driving up I would jump on it and even given its current state 10.5 or 11 may be a little much to me, so I will be putting Bama in a fairly strong play with Clemson in a teaser for my first play of the weekend. GL and look for a brief write up on Clemson/AU later this week. For now the play is a two game teaser.
