I had stanford so i am happy the way game turned out..BUT i have a few questions
1. Isn't there many more things which can go wrong trying a fg, than simply try a running play from half yd out? The snap, the hold, the kicker, also can be blocked. while just running a play there would be less a risk IMHO.
2. Stanford's coach LOST the game for stanford IMHO with his IDIOTIC play calling end of regulation. He was content for a middle range fg attempt, rather than put the ball in hands of ur all world qb to make a play to either score a td, or at least move ball closer for an easier fg. The play calling by stanford was BAFFLING, at least to me.
If Gundy is throwing the ball in that spot, where his reciever was tackled at thehalf yd line, surely u would think he would just bang it in with a run play. Also, the play right before fg where he had his qb take a snap from shotgun to move ball in middle of field? Shotgun? NFL NOTE.....Nice that Archie Manning has this much power in game, where he dictates where Eli will play, and now powers Irsay to fire probably one of the best if not the best Gms in game. Clearly Polian wanted Manning traded, clearly archie would have no part of that, and for Peyton to say he is shocked? BULLSHIT. He had him fired.
So now the question is, what do the colts ask for to trade Luck? As a Jet fan, I would offer Keller, Harris and a few picks..if i had to, i would offer Revis straight up for him.

I had standford +4.5 and was on the right side for a change.seems like this kind of breaks always go the other way lucky enough it went my way this time, I was actually thinking oak st would punch it in on the ground but glad i didnt, I do feel for most people on the other side considering i been there before.

I think the thing that made this game ending so dramatic was the certainty of one side winning, then it flipped to certainty of the other side , then certainty back.
1. Likelyhood that Stanford was gonna cover and probably win outright. I dont think Stanford ever trailed during regulation.
2. certainty Stanford would kick the game winner, after a dramatic last minute drive,
3. hope was still alive ( for OkSt ) to cover during OT.
4. certainty that Stanford field goal would set up a possible cover by OK St.
5. OK St scores the covering touchdown in OT ,,,,
6. review comfirms that it is not a touchdown, but they will punch it in.
( I agree, I owuld guess that 99% of the time, you would see the team punch it in for a TD and not risk a mis-snap on a field goal try, or block)
7. Stanford covers the spread.

for the first time i saw GUNDY being gutless and very very carefull, he usually does agressive and dumb fuck decisions, that had him screwing his team some times--- and i think after all the shit that happened he knew his kicker--wich by the way is a good kicker , had a chance to win the game with a cheap shot, instead if , going for it , and may be taking a pick or a bad exchange and a fumble , he played it safe--does this surprises all of the world---yes, but maybe when Stanford kicker missed twice and then the review didnt gave him the win on a td, he thought he wouldnt want to push his luck any more
i won with stanford by the way

Terrible call. Not because of the fact that I lost my ass on the game. Just because there are more things that can go wrong the way he did it. They were on the 1 inch line, so all they had to do was QB sneak and fall forward for a touchdown.
They had to snap the ball twice, out of the shotgun instead of a snap underneath the center. They had to have both snaps accurate and caught twice. They had to have a good hold, and a good kick. They also had to have good protection up front to make sure that the kick was not blocked.
I would have rather put the game in the hands of the people that handle the ball more often, the 28 year old QB and the center.
Lastly, Mike Gundy "Be a Man. Score a TD."

Mike Gundy is a gutless box, that is all. No way you do not call the play for a sneak in that situation, wtf can happen? He is sneaking from 5 inches out. Before there is even a chance for strip of the ball it is too late because it would have crossed the plane. OS had no business covering the spread in that game, actually i felt bad for Standford even though i had a small bet on OS. You are right about Stanford play calling, horrific!
And i heard from people in Indy that Polian was fired because he did not draft any young talent and because he was letting his son do most of the GM work in the past 2 years, and that it did not have anything to do with Manning - Luck situation.

hey-- i had osu and lost! not angry because he did the right thing.PERIOD!! they are a spread team AND their qb NEVER takes a snap under the center--NEVER. RIGHT THING TO DO.

Um, if it was a bad snap, they could always fall on it and try again. The chances of missing an extra point which is farther away than what they really had is about 1% or less. The chances of turning the ball over while going for it are only slightly higher, even if it's 1st and goal from the 1. They are a pass first team with a finesse run game. Who says 1 yard is a sure thing? You never know what can happen or if there's a penalty to back them up. Or if they miss their sweep and end up way on the side hashmark, then forced to make one of those diagonal FG. The percentage play is to do what they did, center it, and kick the FG.

I disagree...........What are the percentages of a 20 yard field goal? How many 20 yard field goals (extra Points) are messed up? I don't have the exact numbers but I would guess the percentage is in the high 90%? those are pretty good odds, in fact I'll take those odds all day if I'm a head coach.
Trust me some things can go wrong with just handing the ball off too. Not to mention you have 11 defensive guys trying to strip the ball.

What's funny is if he went for it and fumbled!!People would have said he has a good solid that makes this 95+% of the time why didnt he just kick the fg!
Right decision it won the game!!

I had stanford so i am happy the way game turned out..BUT i have a few questions
1. Isn't there many more things which can go wrong trying a fg, than simply try a running play from half yd out? The snap, the hold, the kicker, also can be blocked. while just running a play there would be less a risk IMHO.
Gundy did what he thought was the right call. He has a first team all american kicker. It was chippy that was guaranteeing him a win. I had okie st and pretty much new that with a kicker like sharp, he was going to kick the fg. I was surprise that he even try to throw the ball.
Totally agree. Stanford got conservative. and it cost them the game.
If Gundy is throwing the ball in that spot, where his reciever was tackled at thehalf yd line, surely u would think he would just bang it in with a run play. Also, the play right before fg where he had his qb take a snap from shotgun to move ball in middle of field? Shotgun?
The reason for the shotgun snap is that Okie st doesn't take snaps from under center. they are a spread shotgun offense and it would be more of a risk for them to run a play under center where they are not comfortable. we have seen qbs that are so use to playing in the shot gun that when they go under center, the get nervous and uncomfortable.
