The reason it's a bad beat is because he lost the spread by .5. If Rutgers didn't have that extra point blocked in the 2nd quarter, they would've covered. It can be a bad beat without "outplaying" the opposing team. Anytime you lose by .5 points it's a bad beat. Game could've gone either way.
Get em next time, Scal. Wasn't a bad play. Just lost by a half point.
someone who knows what they are talking about with regard to a bad beat in terms of the larger scope of the game and not a 'bad beat' as simply a hail mary pass or missed 20 yd FG to end it

Guys when taking a favorite NEVER leave the line at half pt. The 10 or 20 juice it costs is Nothing compared to The Few hundred you lose out on by not buying it. Just like when taking an underdog on a half or, buy up. Today. My colorado was +4.5 and if I didn't spend the extra 10 to get it to 5 I would've lost 250. Amazing what that half pt can do for you. Tough luck scal you will bounce back
I can never advocate asking bettors to buy a half pt off 2.5. 3.5 yes. 7.5 yes. Maybe even 4.5. But not 2.5. It's a losing vig paid in the long run for little reason.

HOW ABOUT THAT PASS INTERFERENCE ON MICHIGAN PLAYER IN THE FIRST HALF THEY DIDNT CALL, HELL HE KNOCKED HIM DOWN 2 FEET BEFORE THE BALL GOT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD ON THE RUTGERS 40. EVEN THE ANNOUCERS SIAD THEY MISSED THAT ONE.
DUDE STOP CRYING U LOST AND SHOUDL HAVE LOST THE GAME STRAIGHT UP.
Really? So when Rutgers was up by 9 with about 5 minutes, they were supposed to lose straight up?

IF U BET MSU I WOULD CRY WITH YOU, THIERS ALWAYS A BACK DOOR COVER, THE PROBLEM IS RUTGERS COULD NOT SLAM THE DOOR WHEN THE HAD THEIR CHANCES, TOO MANY 3 AND OUTS IN THE 4TH. I WATCHED EVERY SNAP, U COULD SEE MICHIGAN WAS GOING TO GET THE COVER THE WAY THE GAME WAS UNFOLDING LATE,
I didn't need them to slam the door. I needed them to win by 3. Which is why I waited for 2.5. I would not have posted this play at 3. A missed xpt set the stage for a noncover the whole way.
You don't "slam the door" on a poorly coached yet talented defensive team like Michigan. They are always in at against many teams because their defense keeps them in it, as bad as they are this year.

scal, tough break brother. i lost a lot on michigan ML. had michigan for the side though so that made up for the ML. i was really certain about michigan ML. i agree with the poster who said the right side is the side that cashes. rutgers was the wrong side, or it would have won, brother.

Once again I read these posts and its always followed by a bunch of stupid comments. Bad beat
OMG bad beat!
Rutgers lead for what 2 mins by 9 points. Its like you always had it in the back.
Bad beat would be the horrible call by the referees to not call that a catch when it was CLEARLY a catch. argue different your an idiot like the refs.
Like I said bet Rutgers and this is what you deserve. Plain and simple.
This is not a tough break it is simply a BAD PLAY!!!
Never a good play playing on Rutgers against a 2-3 Michigan team. haha sometimes you have to stop complaing and realize how bad a play this was. I watched the whole game. Cuold have gone either way.

You sir, are a fool.
Rutgers lead for all but 12 minutes of the entire game and THEN took a nine point lead at the beginning of the 4th, the biggest of the game by either team. I said they were closely matched and I waited for 2.5, and yes, 2.5 matters, in this case a lot since a missed extra point got Michigan inside the number. At the beginning of the 4th when they were up by nine, do you think Michigan bettors had their hands over their heads relaxed??? It was a backdoor in bad way after a missed xpt making it all possible.
If you want to talk about ATS leads, Michigan stayed inside .5 of the spread the entire game and any idiot here who said they were comfortable with that is a fool like yourself.
Rutgers controlled the entire flow of the game in the second half despite getting whistled for virtually everything. And no, that last catch was debatable if you understand the refs definition of a catch and not your own.
So for Michigan backers to claim 'nice win' on a number like 2.5 is ridiculous. It was the wrong side and the right result. If you got it at 3.5, that is different and again 3.5 matter much more than 2.5 in a game with teams this close.
To the rest of the above with encouragement and not delusion

That's a terrible way to look at it.
Over the long-term you will not great the breaks of a missed PAT getting you inside the number.
Nor, in the NBA, will you have the luxury of missed FT's to end a game to backdoor a cover consistently.
The right side is not the winning side.
And I want to add this. The Michigan offense and QB especially were much more effective given the slew of personal foul and holding calls throughout the game that the refs consistently gave them.
They literally moved the ball up the field certain drives. If you watch the game. This could have easily ended up a 10 pt win for Rutgers.
They had to beat the refs and overcome a missed PAT. Didn't happen and won't over the long term. But if you take the other side consistently in this spot, it is a loser, so it may have covered by .5 today but won't over the long - term leaving you in bankroll oblivion.
This is something you will have to understand about gambling over the long-term to be winner.

Lines are out and Michigan is only a -1.5 pt favorite over Penn State.
Despite the buy week, I already like Michigan at home in a bounceback game.
Believe me, if there's one thing worse than 3 losses in September in 135 years for this team, it's a crushing loss to Rutgers.
Gonna give it some thought during the week to see if it is worth a post. Who knows? Maybe the line will get to -1 or a pickum but -1.5 is pretty much all you can ask for.
Could care less about the bye week for Penn State. Best thing for Mich is to get right back out on the field and erase that loss to Rutgers.

Excuse me. I DID NOT PLAY THEM AT 3.5 and wouldn't have. So don't come in here outlining quarters and covers at your number when my number was 2.5 and I posted at that number for a reason, a very big reason as it is a vastly different position than 2.5.
I said in the OP this is a 3 star play precisely because the line should be a Pick'em.
I had to swallow the 2.5 and did and a missed xpt did me in.
I'd like to add that the refs absolutely bombed Rutgers with penalties the entire game.
Before Michigan fans debate that last 'catch', ask them to debate thepass interference call where a Rutgers corner was basically tackled by A Michigan receiver to prevent an int and pass interference was called on RUTGERS!
Yeah, the old reliable, "the refs fu**** me". It was a ridiculous play. Rutgers chalk over Michigan isn't a good play now, and prob never will be.

Right, as though they took 2.5 and said, "Man, I hope I get inside that number!"
The crazy part is most of these guys actually pushed and didn't collect or lose a dame if they took Mich or Rutgers. If I posted a day later, the number was at 2.

This was a bad beat, Scal. Here is my rule with lines like this (i.e., -1.5, -2, -2.5). And this comes after losing thousands by a single point. If I'm betting a significant amount of money then I'll either go ML or buy it down to -1, because losing by a point or a half a point feels awful.
