WHY?........
Here is one of the few times where bettors have a (potential) edge........which do you feel is a 'softer' line?
one that has been out for 2-3 months (like week 1)...or one
out for maybe 30 seconds?........
Yes....odds-makers have only minutes to set these lines....if you have prepared IN ADVANCE....POOF!.....YOU are now the expert....
.Let's face it...trying to predict WTF is gonna happen in CFB is tough.....especially week 1
Why guess or force a play?....why not wait until the damm game starts........HUH?
KEYS?
1) Don't simply REACT to what you see 1H....'visualize' beforehand how the game MIGHT unfold.....
eg. like Bama...but don't wanna lay the 25+ ?....with an unproven QB a slow start is not out of the question....you know (pretty much) that West Vag will not be able to stop the Bama running game.....for FOUR quarters
*plus.....Dana H is aware that he must come up with a great plan here or get murdered....so no shock if game is tight / Bama is even down early....meaning NOW....you can get a much better deal
*guess what....it doesn't happen? (Bama rolls from the start) > PASS
NOTE: do not get 'too smart' here (dumb)....and try to bet Bama 2H....WHY?.....because that wasn't the PLAN remember?.....doing so means you have given up your 'edge'.....you are now the one making the last second decision
2) Know a team (and their coaching) tendencies...
NO.....not all teams play equally 1H and 2H.....as you have noticed
Some coaches....like my man the Pirate...often use the 1H as a 'feeling out' process....'nuther words.....we do this > they react how....so his teams often come back when down....this is a reason why.....
Many like to get up early....then cruise the rest of the way
*so do not play them 2H.....do not play over 2H
SOME.....like Art Briles....actually have their team play hard the ENTIRE game......what a bad guy!.........
*NOTE : remember the great / useful option of playing the team
total (TT)........say you just KNOW (ha) that Baylor will move
the ball 2H....but wisely....unsure if that Bear D will be able to
stop (even SMU) their opponent.....maybe play Baylor TT OVER
instead....
3) You must know the match-up as always.....possible advantages / disadvantages....the ability to RUN / STOP the run is not as key as it once was but is still huge...
*from above...if Bama can't run... the pressure on QB Coker is MUCH greater.....here he can stink and Bama can win and maybe even cover
4) DEFENSE / QB PLAY / COACHING
*seem to be most important......with ST play and use of field position close behind as always.....
A 'never say die' QB that can make plays / not turn the ball over ....is probably the best team to play in-game or halftime....like Aggies vs Duke LY....or Baylor vs Washington 2011.....(2 of my biggest in-game/2H wagers)
week 1 this year?.......
*could Golson (ND) get off to a slow start?.......why h e l l yeah
can Rice stop him / Irish 2H?......doubt it (recall he was one of the few bright spots vs Bama)
*can Okie St keep the CRABMAN down for 4 quarters?......probably not
* how about Brett Hundley at Virginia?.....if RB James is healthy probably not
*how bout that ferocioius MIami Ohio D?....Cato / Herd start slow ?...........(terrible road team) so a possiblity
*can the Clemson D contain Georgia and their running game for 4Q?....if Gurley / Marshall healthy?...........NO
many more ideas I'm sure......
*the most important?......for many of us.........
if drinking heavily.........just commit to not betting while blasted
all of a sudden....those well thought out plans go out the window.......along with your cash............
maybe Texas looks terrible the 1H.....can't run at all / Ash still stinks ........does it make sense they come back huge 2H?(necessarily)..........NO
does it make sense their D holds the Lean Green to nothing 2H ?......YES >> so maybe not Texas minus points.....but UNDER...
or NTexas TT UNDER...........maybe better
'pairing' a 1H with a (possible) 2H wager is not a bad idea
*especially if tendencies are well established
like (maybe) S Carolina 1H.....Aggies 2H
I personally never wager 1H if I won't be able to watch the game..
*and have a shot to 'recover' the 1H loss....like if the opponent has a really weak D.....and 'my team' I feel has the ability to IMPOSE THEIR WILL at some point......like Bama.....or Baylor
Each year I make less standard straight wagers....and more in-game or halftime bets....maybe some day I will get smart and ONLY wager once the game begins...................
