When the public  is 70% or better on a side, Vegas is on the other side. Simple.

What you want to look for is reverse line moves; when the public is on one side and the line moves the other way.

Vegas could care less what side their on anyway, they dont like to gamble. They move that line to try to get the public as close as 50/50 as possible. They will take their 10% juice( millions per game and are happy with that.

Heres the thing zmoneymaker. Mikemed is right pretty much because they just want even action but even when they dont get even action theyre not too terribly concernced and heres why.

First off, youre laying -110 on every bet in vegas (for the most part). So vegas is basically getting +110 odds on every bet they take. Think how much better your bottom line would be if you got +110 on every wager, now a 50% win rate is kicking ass!!

Lopsided games arent a big concern really either. Say a sportsbook has $100,000 in bets on team A and only $50,000 on team B. Problem for them right? Well not really, if team A wins they pay $100,000 to the winners and collect $55,000 from the losers, a loss of $45,000. If team B wins they collect $110,000 from the losers and pay $50,000 to the winners, a $60,000 profit. So their options are a $60,000 profit or a $45,000 loss. Pretty damn good odds for a straight bet!! Thats basically +133 on a straight bet!! Hardly a bad position to be in, they only have to win 42.9% of those games to break even, meaning the players have to win 57.1%. Noone hits 57% longterm, noone.

Yeah they have bad days, weeks, and months but at those odds the books will always make money

Do you really think those shiny buildings they have along with the billion locked up in cash come from peanut-percentages?

Very nice write up. But instead of wasting 2 minutes of your life all you really need to say is that the Vegas strip wasn't built on winners.

Nice explanation but Vegas takes vig on both sides, not just one side.
