I’ll never ever be the same IMB and those that sent private message to me meant the bomb Brothers thanks for checking…I’m safe finally on the Kihei side. My soul is destroyed, my house survived so I feel fortunate.
*just a quick rundown
- winds knock down all power and communications. Over 7 Maui FD sends all resources to Kula fire
-A wind cycle from the tail end of hurricane Dora (that went south of the Hawaiian islands) comes whipping through with a force of 75 mph - the madness that followed was like nothing I could imagine or anticipate. - we had nothing, zero police/fireman/medics. Not one fire truck was sent to the fire. No water, no phones. No communication, not one megaphone to give help. We suffered for over 48 hours like nothing I’ve seen in humanity.
I sat listening to the radio for 20+ hours as it was our only hope, our only “cherished” outlet of communication…not one lbEmergency Broadcast Report! 10 songs would roll by, all of us packed in in a truck desperate for updates. The frustration would make any human mad. Finally “there’s been a fire in Lahaina with 6 victims. That’ all from -92.5fm providing you with live updates”.
thanks a whole hell of alot USA for not taking care of you own kind… Fawk man you consistently made mistakes all through this debacle…
I want YOU to show you’re a grown adult and absolutely admit fault… US! Let’s roll that tape back. YA?
IMB - mahalo again for checking in..you’re a good man Brother, please, pass it on that the 72 hours of hell we went through deserves a message and memory for all that’s loss absolutely everything! Pass it on to the media that we still really need help.we are doing it all ourselves!

Maui has been a drought since rainfalls have diminished 5 years ago. Throughout last summer they warned of wildfires. You would think some preparedness would have happened. An emergency plan maybe?
The hurrincane passing by was the perfect accelerator. Cannot believe the carnage!!

Glad your OK!

I have been in and made through hurricane Irma and Ian. With a direct hit with Ian last year. We are inland and no real damage in my local area. Felt some or most of what these powerful storms are.
Brighter days are ahead. To all my Hawaiian friends blessings and good fortunes are coming and you should be first in line.

I wish the best for everyone out there and a speedy recovery. I live in Texas gulf area, so I can understand rapid devastation, although fire fully consumes to an extent that water does not.
Being a former e-response/hazmat person, the described emergency response program needs to be reviewed on several levels, first defining 'what is an emergency?'

I was in Kauai during this. Couldn't believe the wind. The island nearly doubled in size overnight with all tourists from Maui making a mad dash so their vacation doesn't get disrupted. I felt for you all then and even more so now seeing the impact. Glad to see you are okay. Especially happy to hear your house made it. Hope nothing but the best for you and your fellow Mauians.

I just want to add that this particular community where I’ve lived for over 11 years of Lahaina is like no other I can think of in all Hawaii’i and especially the mainland…. You won’t find many feeling sorry, you have to literally place any handout in a locals hands because the West Side Maui people are to proud to feel sorry, or accept the smallest of things.
I walked with $400 cash handing out $20/$10/$5’s we had no ATM or power only cash worked for anything….. believe it or not people were making change only needing enough for two gallons gas. It’s amazing the things I’ve witnessed and in a strange way, as the original Royal Capital of all Hawaii’i..we were surprised a lot like Pearl Harbor, but we’re the strongest part of the islands that could have been hit.
Lahainaluna 1831 -the oldest public US High school west of the Mississippi River! We’ve seen it all. Strong
The kind messages here I truly appreciate…. with Aloha plenty.

Much appreciated fellas….I’m way behind on capping the games, as still no wifi or TV in my area. I have roughly 20 Regular Season Win Totals that I got down on before the tragedy. I’ll plan to post maybe tomorrow. I’ve run at a 70% clip over 16 seasons.
As for West Maui-Lahaina updates…we’re getting better everyday. Many finally feel like humans again…But something feels very wrong with the recovery efforts. The Rescue efforts claim over 114 dead, and roughly 1000 missing with 85% of the disaster area covered. This delta is too great 1000>114. I think the country should be prepared for the reality that the death toll will reach much higher. I would think over 300 lives.
It’s been two weeks, we’re an island of 150,000 we know each other and the missing should have been found by now. ;( please keep sending prayers…
another sad reality about to come out in the media is that the power went out that morning, so school was closed and the keiki were sent home. Unfortunately many children that were sent home were alone when the fire started around 3:30-5pm. Many of the missing are children RIP. I wish I had better news….but thanks for asking. Sincerely , Wolfe
