Lou, Im from Jersey and most Definatly will be voting. My question to you is, if there are more yay's than nay's, does it automatically go into law/
I can answer that question that is NO it does not go into law yet because on the federal level there is still the pro and Amateur act. that only allow 4 state to have it. But I am sure because the times we are having they will ask congress to grandfather NJ in to it . But I would not expect any sports betting in NJ in till the super bowl comes here . So i am looking at if everything goes to plan for NJ 2018 or 2020. I know that not the news you want but that what i think will happen. If this gets voted yes at least that will be a start.

Why couldn't the legislation prohibit better on any NJ sports team-pro or amateur-?This should placate those worrying about the Super Bowl being yanked from East Rutherford.

It's the first step in a long process but we need to vote yes to get the ball rolling.
It does have momentum however not a slam dunk getting passed. Remember us gamblers are a minority, however its being presented as this will help employment, atlantic City and the local economy.

I think the measure will pass but the Feds will try to stop it in the courts. I can't see this happening in the next two years so please don't get your hopes up for betting on the Steelers in NJ anytime soon.

I was born and raised in South Jersey. I was there when they voted in casinos in 1977. It was going to do so much for the state in revenue increases. Atlantic City was going to be the jewel it had once been. Well, what a joke! I live in Las Vegas now and have for a couple of decades. AC will NEVER be anything close to Las Vegas! Now the AC casinos are hurting bad because of all the other gambling that has been legalized in surrounding states. Getting sports betting will not save them. It will definitely not help the state or Atlantic City itself. The crowds are gone, the money is drying up. It doesn't have the exculsive on gambling on the east coast. Might as well bulldoze the casinos now and find a new niche. Besides the way corporate america runs sportsbooks (as seen here in Las Vegas) the bettors don't have much chance anyway. Just legalize online wagering so we can have some real competition in lines and then sports wagering can be fun and profitable again

Vegas is well, Vegas.. But Vegas will never have the ocean. AC has the potential to be as big or bigger than Nevada. After they get sports gambling, they MUST start to get the 'element' out of AC. Jersey should pour all its resources into AC and redo that entire city. Forget about what Casinos are in PA, CT, or DE.. AC can and should be a huge focal point for gambling once this gets the go-ahead

Sports betting advocates see good signs on referendum
There’s early indications that the statewide referendum on sports betting is on its way to approval.
William J. Pascrell III, campaign director for Vote YES on Sports Wagering and a partner at Princeton Public Affairs Group Inc., said, “At this stage so far, the absentee (vote by mail) ballots we’ve been monitoring in northern New Jersey are running 2-to-1 for approval.’’
Polls have also showed heavy support for the measure downstate. Sports betting would be hosted by the casinos and racetracks, and a Rutgers-Eagleton report showed support from nearly three-quarters of likely voters in Monmouth, Ocean and Atlantic counties, where the casino and racetrack economies are based.
Pascrell said, “We‘re confident it‘s going to pass. We don‘t know what kind of margin it‘ll have.’’
