This isn’t going to make much sense to everyone, but all sports, very seldom will there be lopsided games due to in game betting. With in game betting games close to the number, especially close to the ending, will draw more in game play.

These posts are funny to me. It’s like “Vegas” is one guy and he makes a “call” to the Memphis sideline. When you take a moment to actually think about statements like this…I mean really reflect on it, and think through the logistics, implications, etc……only then do you truly understand how breathtakingly stupid you sound

Yeah it does.  Why would Vegas have any skin in the game if roughly 50/50 of the money is wagered on both sides of the game?  Either side they win on juice.  Why would they care if Memphis kicks the FG or not?  Thinking that some high-up from Vegas is calling in to the Memphis coach to cover at all costs and to kick the FG is asinine.  Unless I'm misunderstanding OP's title?

There are multiple books, casinos, sports betting online sites like FD, etc. Which one is making the call? You think they all have the EXACT same "need" in each game?

That is true. But, ask any book manager and they will tell you it doesn't often happen that way.

First, regarding going for the kick, maybe the coach wanted to give his kicker the chance for a record?  Getting up 8 would've made clinched at least a tie, forcing WV to score and convert a 2pt try..

Second, Vegas doesn't make phone calls to 'go for it' to push a spread from 5pts up to 8 (or any other number lol), they don't, which Sportsbook mgr is gonna be responsible for that?   

Third, Vegas doesn't want 50/50 action so they make the 'juice money'.  They WANT ACTION.  They want to post tickets.

I've mentioned before I worked an "office" from '02-'07, and we had approx 300-350 clients during FBall season.  We'd write maybe 1500-2000 plays on a Sat and Sun during FBall season, by far the busiest betting season.

We had a DonBest 'Line Service' that gave us the line moves in real time, we had 2 computer screens to monitor this, and just put the 'real line' up and wrote the action. 

We kept track of the $$$ coming in, and if we were getting buried on a game (say $9k to $2500), if ANY of the major "Island Books" started moving the line, we would to the smaller players.. to the "sharps" we put up the "real" line (like Pinnacle).. ALWAYS.  When they finally moved, then we'd move it to everyone.

So, at kickoff we'd have maybe 4-6 games on Saturday and Sunday that we had 'a position' on..  some way, some how, thru turnovers, kick returns, blocked FGs, whatever.. some way we'd win more than half of those "position games" that the House needed.  Not every game, but more than our share.  And made $$ every week.  EVERY.. Week.

When you win those games, they usually knock out parlays and teasers and $$$$$ rolls in...  That's how it works in real life.  Swear on a stack of Bibles.

books may try to shade the line to the smaller players, but putting up the REAL line is what works.. week in, week out.

Vegas is not calling anything.  It's the participants on the field that are doing all the decisions.  

Lots of coincidence situations but to make us feel better when we lose, we'll just use the coin phrase that Vegas is calling which means Vegas wins again.  They have to win because then lights need to be brighter and better for tomorrow n thereafter more.  I made that happened by losing.

I'm at the book. One of my ticket writers calls me to the counter to handle a dispute.

A tourist is demanding payment for a ticket graded as a loser. It was a SB prop bet, over 3' tackles by one the Giants (I forget who.) The guy had 3 at the end of the game. The tourist insists his player was pulled for the final few minutes because we didn't want him to get a fourth tackle and have to pay the ticket.

I said, "Let me see if I have this straight. You think we have Tom Coughlin's phone number. And we called him. On the sidelines. And he answered, DURING the Super Bowl. And we told him to take the player out. And he did. Is that about it, do I have that correct?"

I thought I was pointing out to him how moronic his claim was, and that he would drop it. Instead, he said, "Yeah, that's what happened."

He had no idea if we needed the over or under on that prop. He also, obviously, had no common sense.

The guy would not drop it, got loud and belligerent (probably helped along by the difficulty I had trying to refrain from laughing while I pointed out the absurdity of his claim) and security escorted him off the premises.

And yes, if you're wondering, his ticket was for something like $50.00, CERTAINLY enough for us to risk losing our gaming license for influencing the outcome of a wager.
