Does anyone know what happened to Rx Forum rubber room newsletters? No updates for 3 days
SBR forum has the newsletters up. And Powers Picks has a record of how they have done which I find invaluable. No sense in taking the advice from a coin flipper. I have studied and followed those newsletters for years and it has greatly improved my ability to pick winners. However, beware of the distortions of small sample size.

I should add Steponaduck is right. Don’t use them for picks, use them for information. Any jamoke can scribble a few glib sentences to justify his picks, and that’s exactly what they do. By Thursday you can cross reference what the various newsletters have to say about certain games you have a lean on. After a few years of reading them you give a few of them more respect for providing solid information, and you discount a few others for just being in the tout business. I will not name names because I don’t want to be banned here

I like to read a couple of those newsletters and have for years. Like Duck and Lordzud said, just for information and some stats and all. Sure I enjoy seeing some of the picks and all too, but cannot just tail blindly. I enjoy them, much like I still buy old school preseason Athlon magazines and Phil Steele's book. Old habits die hard I'm sure.
Back when I was younger, I just to think Power Sweep was going to give me great info for a Vegas trip, so I'd buy an issue before going. Learned fast not to follow his picks! But those were fun times anyhow.

No problem, once you start reading the newsletters you begin to identify their approaches and incorporate a bit of each of them into your own final decision on whom to bet on. I don’t have time or inclination to study college football like these football nerds do. Hell I have a life to lead, I don’t even watch the entire games that I bet on. Put em all on record and fast forward through all the huddles and commercial bullshit. If it’s a loser, shut it off. If you are winning, crack a beer and savor the moment. Sports gambling doesn’t have to be a fools paradise, it can be dirt cheap excellent entertainment.

Brad Powers of Powers picks is probably the one I respect the most. He has been a coin flipper this year in college football but remains strong in his top NFL picks. Past years he was just the opposite and that can be attributed to small sample size. He always has good information. Like Phil Steele he has more of a mathematical analysis and that can miss other important information that isn’t so quantifiable. Best newsletter for college this year in my opinion is Power Plays but I honestly have to caution trusting any of them from week 9 on, the lines are tighter, the spreads are bigger and a small sample size isn’t very predictive of future success.

The only newsletter I give a thumbs up to is the pointwise. The mathematical rate guide is gold if you know how to apply it. Works best from late Oct to the SB NFL / CFB to gauge the line on a game. They may run games thru computer program to spit out what a team should be favored by.
