Stanford has the edge in points per game, yards allowed, time of possession, and fumbles. Oregon has the edge with yards gained, and punting.
Stanford has done well against the run for the most part, but they have given up some long runs as of late, which Oregon is very good at doing, especially with James back now. James ran for 156 yards against Washington, which was his 22nd 100 yard effort in 32 games. He has 1,061 yards on the season, which makes him the first Oregon player to have three 1k yard seasons. He scored his 44th career rushing TD against Washington and is tied for seventh all-time in school history. James has three runs of more than 55 yards in two games against Stanford, including touchdown runs of 60 and 76 yards. Stanford has also had some issues on the perimiter, where Oregon has A LOT of speed. Thomas, who had a big game against Stanford is also back for this game, and Stanford has also had some issues with mobile QB's. Thomas started, and played the whole game last week vs Wash. He completed 25 passes for 169 yards and a TD, with no Int's. He has 1541 yards, a 60% completion rating, 19 TD's, and 5 int's for the season... On the other side of the ball, Stanford will try to controll the clock with the power offense. They are without TE Zach Ertz (knee) and WR Chris Owusu (concussion) in this game. They will have to have balance with Luck, and the run game, to keep the high powered Oregon offense off the field. Luck is 5th nationally in effeciency, and has 2424 yards, 71.3 completion percentage, 26 TD's, and 5 picks. He has only been sacked 4 times, but USC seemed to have some success in getting back there, and the ducks have 29 sacks. Taylor, who is averaging 99 yards per game will have to have a huge game against the ducks 59th rush defense.

Oregon is ranked 25th in third down conversions, and 36th in stopping them... Stanford is 10th in first down completions, and 18th when stopping them. Their average SOS's are not that far off... The teams Stanford have played have an average SOS of 34.8... The teams Oregon have played have an average of 39.0... Stanford and Oregon both played Arizona, Colorado, Washington St, and Washington... Stanford put up a combined 194 yards, and Oregon 178, and Stanford allowed a combined 52, and Oregon 78... Against other opponents Stanford has put up 235, and allowed 97, however the average total offense of each of these teams is 65, and the average total defense is 79. Against other opponents Oregon has put up 236, and allowed 123, however the average total offense of each team is 57.6, and the average total defense is 53.6. So what we gather from this is both offenses are even in points, but the defenses Stanford have gone up against are not averaging as high as the defenses Oregon is playing. We also see that Stanford has done better on defense, and played a better group of defenses. This tells us that Stanford clearly has a better defense than Oregon does right now... Stanford is ranked 18th in total defense, which is 87th against the pass, and 3rd against the run. Oregon is ranked 7th on total offense, which is 78th passing, and 5th rushing.
