I make a good extra penny betting these games, you are talking to me like a blatant ignorant homer of my favorite team which is the furthest from the case. I am acting like what? Im acting like UF is good enough with what is there this year and staff wise to take care of business against a Big East team at home after being doubted and getting up to be the best team in Florida against a team that says they can not only play with them, but beat them.
Okay. I already gave you my rundown on why USF will play them tight. To repeat, UF is devoid of proven playmakers. I don't expect them to be as bad as they were last week, but I don't expect them to totally flip the script either. Their play calling is inept and they have the wrong players for the system we saw on Sat. Across from them will be a Bulls D that lost some name players, but still has a lot of talent. DTs Terrel McClain and Keith McKaskill can clog up the middle if UF tries power. More likely, UF will throw it downfield mixing in Rainey and Demps on the edge. USF's LBs and DEs are fast enough to keep up, heck Mia OH was able to own the edges, and what I'm banking on from Holtz is discipline and tackling fundamentals. The USF defenders only need to get a hand on Demps/Rainey to bring em down. USF's secondary is their defensive strength, and with UF's average receivers, I see Brantley, still a baby, having to make throws into tight windows. Can he? Yes. Will it happen in his 2nd start? I doubt it.
When USF has the ball, they're employing a crafty QB with good WRs, above average RBs, and above all a stellar, veteran o-line that returns all 5 from last year. Holtz wants to play power football, and I think that's the best way to attack UF's D as it's predicated on speed. If running right at UF doesn't work, USF won't fold up shop. They'll revert to a passing game which moves Daniels around and puts pressure on the back 7 to stay disciplined. UF has a good back 7, but they also have a few very young guys in very big roles. I expect Daniels to exploit Bostic and/or Jelani Jenkins, Brown, and when UF goes nickel, Elam will get torched.
Special teams are what worry me most. USF is breaking in a new punter who only got one off last week for 37 yards. The only way I see UF blowing them out is if they're playing on a short field all day long.
From what I see and read, USF has an advantage in intangibles. They have nothing to lose and if things start to go wrong for UF, they might panic after last week. UF is supposed to win, and they know it, so if it's a tight game, I think the Gators might get tight too, especially Brantley. Of course The Swamp will be load, but USF has a Remington candidate at center who will make sure his guys get the right calls.
Overall, UF is more talented, but so much of that talent has yet to grow up. USF has talent too, but it's also a very mature team. The key guy on either side is Brantley. If he steps it up, gets everyone involved, USF will lose and maybe lose big. But I'll put my money on BJ Daniels, a fearless, tougher than nails dual threat.
