The NCAA uses players and players use the NCAA. Players in todays era will look out for #1. Unless you are looking for a college degree, the only incentive left for a proven NFL draft pick is a BS Bowl game? Forget it!
Why would a proven player risk further injury if he is banged up and does not have an incentive. Maybe a 16 team playoff could generate more excitement throughout the year?
I'm not saying I like it or condone it, but could this be the start of a new trend?

how can you say he's that good, he never touched my qb - not one damn time....what his stomach hurt??? He's out of shape listening to sports center tell him how good he is....
his tummy hurt cause he can't run...he was breathing through his mouth, hands on hips, obviously you don't know what that means, it means he can 't run cause he's lazzzzzzzzzzzyyyyyy! no discipline, no training....= gassed after 3 plays
Dude are you freaking serious?!?!?! What SC-Georgia games have you been watching??? Even in this "down year" of his, he sacked Murray this year, and just missed 2-3 others with pressures. Last year, he also had a sack, with multiple pressures while hurtling UGA linemen with Murray running for his life.
Oh yeah, and his freshman year all did was make the game changing play slinging Murray around like a rag doll and causing a sack fumble that resulted in the game winning fumble recovery for a TD.....Yep he sucks

I am sure Clowney has a multi-million dollar insurance policy taken out on his body if he is unable to play professional football due to injury....so avoiding playing football in order to save his draft stock is no excuse.
What is the market on defensive ends these days anyhow? I am not sure that he stands to make the 40 million guaranteed that he thinks he will.
That being said, I don't see how his stock won't plummet due to injury and toughness concerns.
The book has him listed at 6-6 272.....I think that is stretching it...he is 6'6, but doesn't look much over 245 to me...I remember hearing before the season that the South Carolina coaches assigned GA's to make sure that he eats. Sounds like keeping weight on is an issue.
Never Make A Winner A Loser. Never.

It's so true. But the schools are so hypocritical. They tout amateurism as a virtue as they reap BILLIONS of dollars of college football. I love how the NCAA sells *autographed* player items on its own website, and yet busted Johnny Manziel for making $$ from his own autograph!
With that mentality, I really can't blame Clowney. What did USC give Lattimore for blowing out his knee? Zilch. Lattimore loses millions from being drafted in the 1st rd to being a 4th rd pick.

if he saw what happened to Lattimore and that's why he is sitting out then why he has taken the field at all this year?
Lattimore
was healthy when the freak injury occurred yes? it's not like
Lattimore was playing with a mild injury that was worsened, right?
i think the Lattimore analogy is ridiculous.
let's
just call it what it is - Clowney has hurt ribs and playing with hurt
ribs actually is painful. then again, Tony Romo and other quarterbacks
have also hurt their ribs but have continued to play.
i think
Clowney just sat out vs Kentucky because he knew they would likely win w
out him (though the game was much closer than it should have been) but
he'll be ready to go when the big games come around.
he played against Georgia. he'll play in the tough games.

on espn's PTI today, Kornheiser, Wilbon, and guest Peter King, all said
EXACTLY what I posted yesterday: If he's really concerned about getting
seriously injured then why did he even play at all this year?
easy one to dissect if you really think about it.

Um.....where's he going to be this weekend against Ark.?
I said he's LAZY...and I was referring to THIS year....not the past. You can't say you're proud of his performance , really? He's quitting! How does that help your team.?
