SMU defense was very underrated last season. They pitched two shutouts, had 2 more games where the opponent scored only 1 touchdown, and they also scored 11 touchdowns of their own. Tom Mason is doing miracles with SMU defense. SMU as a team was very good at home last season. With the exception of the aTm game, they played very well in their home stadium, winning final 4 home games by a combined score of 185-88. Their starting QB Gilbert started clicking late in the season when he had 4 passing touchdowns in a 77-42 win over Houston (record in points scored for SMU). After that game he had 9 touchdowns (passing & rushing) and no interceptions in final 5 regular season games. His team followed and they won their bowl game 43-10 as a double digit dog against Fresno. They are bringing back a nice team for the 2013 season with plenty of momentum. The current Texas Tech roster has 0 experience when it comes to opening season on the road. Their starting quarterback is making his first start at this level. Their head coach is making his own debut at the position. Their defense is experienced but they have a new defensive coordinator. This will be a good game and SMU will cover +4.5.

smu qb gilbert plays ok but too erratic (15td/15int) not to mention they lost their leading rusher and receiver. put too much on gilberts shoulder and hes bound to make mistakes. i dont see them keeping up with ttechs fast paced offense that put up points.
smu defense lost bunch of players in their front 7 which were strength of their defense last year. only thing they have going for them is uncertainty in qb position for ttech along with their 1st year head coach. i can see smu hanging in early but expect ttech to pull away second half once things settle down. just my two cents

Too much focus on QB's here.....Texas Tech has 5 RBs deep who can be rotated in to tire out SMU's inexperience line and get them stuck in the box while either freshmen Tech QB uses their big receivers one on one.....I like my chances with Tech. June Jones needs the horse to get out of the barn....only has Gilbert as far as I can tell and he has an inexperienced line in front of him.

Proving is hard. Talk is easy.
