First of all let me give praise to all the 4 teams on a great season. I think our sport, college football, is the most unique sport in the world. It's about passion, fans and traditions. No other sport IMO is even close to it. I love it and I know all of you do as well.
As for several years now I have been very consistent on my stance with Clemson and Alabama. I think both are the 2 best programs in the country. Alabama has been the " Gold Standard " of our sport for the last decade and deservedly so. Alabama is what this sport is all about....Have always had the up most respect for their program and will continue to win or lose.
When I think about this game I really see 2 of the same. Clemson is Alabama...Alabama is Clemson they're built in similar fashions. I will say this tho, I think that both Alabama and Clemson are not as good as last years teams overall. I think Clemson defensively is a little better then last years team... But both in a nutshell are a little behind both of those 2 teams. Last years Alabama team was ABSOLUTELY loaded defensively. It was a group of pass rushers and DB's and LB's that were overwhelming. This year I don't really see that. I see a group who is very good.... so don't twist what I'm saying. But overall it's a group that's not overwhelming like last years team. My biggest issue with Alabama is not on defensive side of the ball. That group is still obviously good enough to win another title.... It's Jalen Hurts. I think he is a good leader, he's a gamer....He's alot of good things. But I just don't think he's a championship caliber QB. I do think the Hawaiian kid in time will be great.... but Jalen is just not the guy to take you over the top. Now can Alabama beat you with those thoroughbreds at running back? Absolutely.... Those guys just keep coming. But when I look at this team, I just don't see " it "..... again, I might be wrong and it wouldn't surprise me. But like I have said for many years I trust MY EYES more than anything. I know this game.... I've been apart of it for many many years.... My eyes won't lie to me.
Clemson is different team this year compared to last..... It is more of a power running game mixed with very talented parts on the outside. I think Kelly Bryant is and has performed outstanding following the footsteps of Deshaun Watson.... I mean what could the guy have done following a legend like that? Watson was the best player this game has seen IMO in many years.... One of the 5 best to ever play the college game...and Kelly just stepped up and did what was asked of him. Not trying to do too much. But this team has a few parts that scouting standpoint really stresses the defense on the opposing side. Travis Etienne is a special special talent.... If you don't really know much about him, get ready... you will. Him along with Feaster is a dynamic duo. They are both elite guys who can take it to the house at any moment. Remember what i'm about to tell you.... If Alabama makes a mistake and is out of their rush lanes tonight 1 if not both of them will break a long run for a TD.
What will happen? It's hard to say..... As I have said I think both are a mirror image of each other in a lot of ways. I think Clemson has a few more weapons offensively and more sound defensively and that in a nutshell is the difference. If Clemson wins this game...... I think you might see a " passing of the torch " tonight....
One think I will say about this Oklahoma Georgia game.... If and IF only Baker is fully 100%.... Georgia better be ready to score... Oklahoma will get theirs. They will score points.... and the question is can Georgia get into a track meet is necessary. I will give you a little word of wisdom when it comes to matchups of games like Oklahoma Georgia..... Experience at QB especially at an elite level usually is the difference.
Good Luck to all today and Happy New Year
