He receited a poll of Las Vegas oddsmakers and the Broncos and Hokies each get six points for playing at home - the only two teams in the country to get that many. Other teams such as Hawaii, Florida, LSU, Wisconsin, Oregon, USC and Iowa (along with a couple of others that I can't remember) came in next getting 5.5 points for playing at home.

agree with Virginia Tech but Texas Tech and Hawaii are too high
Hawaii is only really an advantage when the other team comes in not focused and treats it like a vacation. This doesn't happen to all teams, so their home field advantage is too hit or miss to be ranked this high.

I went to VT, and I cannot compare it to other CFB venues cuz I have never been. I wonder why teams like Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State don't have higher spreads, when they have 100,000 people. Virginia Tech stadium holds about 67,000.
However, for those who doubt VT deserves 6 points at home. They have never been to Blacksburg. Go Hokies!

Herd is the man, but dont know if if I can wrap my arms around that concept, if there was indeed that big a difference there would be a reflection at the pay window week in and week out and the line would be quickly adjusted,,with that said looks like Boise maybe catching 3 to 4 points for home opener, would be hard not to ride here with the broncos at that number~

This wasn't the Herd's opinion. It was from the Vegas oddmakers. Apparently it wasn't even Colin. This was a news item they were just passing along for discussion purposes. They gave Tech's and Boise's record at home the last few year's SU and ATS. Maybe someone can post it because I don't remember them off the top of my head but when you hear the numbers, six points doesn't sound quite as crazy anymore.

i have always used VT as my gold standard for calculating HF advantage in my pointspread analysis... makes sense to have Boise up there, too... USC, Florida and Oregon are also crazy environments...

If any of you want to know what each team gets right now for home field advantage or pretty close to it all you have to do is look at Phil Steele's magazine at the top of each teams page where it says home field . The only two teams in his mag with 6 points are Boise St. and Virginia Tech . Just an FYI

Boise State is only rated that high because of their blue field,which does affect the visiting team in an adverse way. Their stadium only holds 32,000. Hawaii is a ery tough place to play because it is a very tough place to keep your mind on business.
As far as Michigan goes, their crowds have really tamed down recently because of the product that Michinan has put out on the field and the schedule that they play. They have grown accustom to home losses, and show it. I think this improves if Michigan's schedule improves and their performance improves. It is tough to get excited over Western and Eastern Michigan, as well as Delaware State, as well as Purdue and Indiana.
