Record 35-36UMASS &#x2B;3 over COASTAL CAROLINA Chanticleers (first FBS game ever!)The &#x2B;3 is at -120. WOW. I honestly thought this may have opened at Umass -4. Yes MINUS 4.I have about a minute to post this.I was DYING for UMASS to lose to Hawaii in a nail-biter and I got exactly what I wanted.Therefore, the following weeks line would be depressed as UMASS falls yet again.Now they play a team in their FIRST FBS game and are DOGS???Umass is winning this game.But lo and behold, the books are GIVING me 3???? Folks, I&#x27;ll break it down later if I have the time, but UMASS is winning outright. This sets up PERFECTLY.Since the -2.5 is &#x2B;100, I&#x27;ll just pay $.10 for what is amazingly, a three point spread. That is the insurance of a lifetime.But do not let that deter you from the Umass ML if the Juice bothers you.UMASS will come out on top. They have the offense and a loss here will be beyond devastating. No in-depth analysis but my covers brothers can add it.

I see my Chanticleers having a rough year (hence my under 4 RSW wager on them).

Like scalbrine said it's their first season playing fbs and they took a huge step back last year.....this is only their second year with the added scholarships so their team is nowhere near the talent pool of other fbs teams.....add this to the fact that head coach Joe Moglia has taken an indefinite medical leave (this is a huge loss....he is in an incredible person, coach and motivator).

No play for me but sure hoping for a minutemen loss (hate to root against my alma mater but money is money)

I prayed UMass would lose a nail biter against Hawaii. A must win for UMass here, an embattled program that will have a season spiral out of control sending Whipple on his way with a loss to an FBS newbie.

A must win for a team that has only 8 wins total the last 3 years, is a bit of an over statement. I don't normally hold teams first games with much weight but UMass loss to Hawaii could be an emotional drainer. They came in this year with a positive outlook as they return 15 starters. Now doubt sets back in with these players after a heartbreaking loss to Hawaii.

I know Coastal played in the FCS but they have over 30 wins the last 3 years. They have talent on this team. Even though their coach is on leave both the OC and DC have head coaching experience. Add in a little do it for coach Moglia mantra I think you get a pumped up UCC team and lay it on UMASS.

It&#x27;s not an overstatement.This team is on its way back to the FCS never having found a home in-a conference due completely to its woeful play.People are also growing tired of Whipple.This is a game that says "If you can&#x27;t beat a team in its first FBS game, it is YOU who belongs in the FCS."Look at Idaho, underperformance in the FBS has lead to their return to the FCS next year. This isn&#x27;t Bama or Clemson or FSU or Michigan on its way to a prestigious bowl game or championship who have the alleged "real" must wins. These smaller teams, the bottom feeders, have turning point games, games that will define their season in their own right.This is one of them for UMass. This team was more than well prepared to beat Hawaii and lost in the final minutes. I loved their play demonstrating a more than constant offense. It&#x27;s my old NBA bare minimum angle: If you can score, you can win (something the Knicks couldn&#x27;t even do last year hence my straying away from them capping wise). Because that is what bad teams do (and Hawaii having won a bowl game doesn&#x27;t classify as "bad") so the win, absent the line that went from -3.5 Hawaii to -3 UMass before kick, did not accurately capture who UMass is. They shouldn&#x27;t have been laying points. Pick um at worst.And now instead of 2-0 they face an 0-2 start and then the gauntlet of losses will come: ODU, Temple, Tennessee, USF. Several losses in there. Maybe a speaker of a win in one. So this game against an FCS team early is a MUST, for a win starved team particularly one trying to rise from the dust heap.And the line asks virtually nothing of us, but only to win the game. Perfect scenario off a loss (which happened early and is not as demoralizing because the entire season is ahead).

For the record:Coastal Carolina has not named a starting QB (which is always a good thing because it supports the idea one team needs to keep the other off balance, which projects uncertainty with current roster spots. On a psychological level, it is trying to gain an edge that isn&#x27;t already there, that is, an edge that is needed because your team currently feels inadequate.)And in this case the CC Offensive Coordinater ADMITS this outright. I&#x27;ve never heard of this but their QB by committee apparently is made up of as many as EIGHT QB&#x27;s...If you can&#x27;t decide on one you&#x27;ve got some issues:&#x201C;You&#x2019;ll probably see multiple guys play early. A year ago, CCU was run heavy with 587 rushing attempts vs. 211 passing attempts, and averaged 254.3 yards per game on the ground. But the top two running backs graduated. Senior tailback Osharmar Abercrombie leads CCU in rushing yards (396 in 2016) and name letters (19).

The Minutemen effectively held Hawaii to 112 yards on the ground last week.

I like the subtext in the quote by the head coach: It says, "We're happy to be here in the FBS. This is our first game. We relish the opportunity. It will take everything we have to win."

Compare this to saying something to the effect of "We have believed we were an FBS team for a long time. We know we can play with many teams already in the FBS. Our guys have been well prepared for this game for quite some time."

One set of quotes is thankful. The other set of quotes confident and prepared. The actual quote in the former, not the latter.

“We’re looking forward to this opportunity. We know it’s a huge step up especially after watching them play last Saturday and the type of game that they played, it’s a completely different level. It’s going to take us playing a really good game of football for all 60 minutes for us to come out and win.”

Rather than look at the talent, I analyzed this game from the point spread movement. At times, this has helped and hurt me. In short, Coastal Carolina opened as the FAVORITE

at -3 then within a day, moved to +2.5? Looks like a lot of bettors were slamming U Mass which caused this line movement but just remember, the majority of the time, do odds makers give away free money? Looks like I'm gonna have to roll with:
