why the hell isn't the line 28...
maybe its because
no one trusts lane kiffin after the sun bowl debacle
its best player m lee was recently injured
SC's ATS record for 2012
one of its star tight ends maybe out for the season
with the ncaa sanctions has depth issues
SC grossly underachieved last year with al that blue chip talent
this is 2nd year of chow's system at Hawaii, though I heard he fired his OC in early August.
I agree, it seems low even for a game in Hawaii. but, as of late, when you are talking USC, nothing is a given.
this is my 5th ranked pick (I play 3) so my 2nd alternate right now. but, it is by no means a given that SC will cover. GL

This year’s squad returns a total of 16 starters, giving USC some hope to make a return to stardom.
On offense, USC returns eight starters, but will need to replace Matt Barkley at quarterback. Looking to replace him will be sophomore Max Wittek. Wittek had limited time in 2012, throwing for 388 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Wittek will have arguably the top receiver in college football to throw to, as junior Marqise Lee will look to build off his 2012 season where he caught 118 passes for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns. Lee is a Heisman Trophy candidate, as he has been given 16/1 odds to win the award this year. Also back for USC is running back Silas Redd, who transferred from Penn State prior to the start of the 2012 season. Redd had just 905 yards last season, but should have a bigger impact this year after having a full season under a new system. The Trojans also return four starters on the offensive line, which makes this unit very dangerous.
On defense, USC allowed 24.3 points and 394 yards per game in 2012. Kiffin’s defenses have struggled, allowing at least 375 yards per game in all three seasons. The USC defense has seven starters back in 2013, led by senior defensive end Morgan Breslin, who had 13 sacks in 2012. Leonard Williams, a sophomore on the line, had eight sacks in 2012 as well. USC could have issues in the secondary, as the group loses two starters. The Trojans held opponents to 227 yards passing per game in 2012.
Respect to you Longhorn and would like to know more about what you pick might be:

I have 10 picks on my board, I rank USC -22.5 as my 5th ranked pick. However, I will only play 3 in week 1. My list is fluid right now. I like USC, a lot, but I don't trust Kiffin. To have a team coming off probation as a 21 pt favorite at the Sun Bowl against Georgia Tech make the pathetic effort that they made and lose big burned a lot of people including yours truly. If this were in LA and USC by 28, I would probably take USC.
Thanks for your write up.

Again...much respect for the input!
Think that I am going to put $30 down on Utah St and USC ATS just for the Thursday games.
Is the UCLA vs Nevada game on your board...thoughts on UCLA ATS?

This game has blowout written all over it. Two rookie Hawaii corners are going to cover USC's wide receivers. All-American Marqise Lee may catch 15 passes in this game. Add in the other wideout, Nelson Agholor and you have arguably the best receiving tandems in the nation. Mismatch friends! Total mismatch!
USC will be good on defense, especially the defensive line and linebackers. The Rainbows running on this front seven is a dream.
This line should be much higher in my judgement but because of last year's cliff dive....the Trojans have lost favor with the betting public. USC will beat the hell out of a badly inferior Hawaii team.

My line show USC -27. BUT, a few things to consider before laying the wood.
USC's Non Conf ATS record last year was 0-4...
Hawaiis Non Conf ATS record last year was 3-1...
Over the past 3 yrs, USC has opened to Hawaii 0-2 ATS (-21 and -44) and opened against Minnesota and did not cover the 24 points. 0-3 ATS last 3 first games of season.
No value for me either way, but I would lean Hawaii covers.

based on what? your opinion that Hawaii sucks...
please expand on why you think Hawaii sucks...

I'll tell you why I think they'll suck....
Hawaii is not gonna be able to run the ball. a brand new backfield matched up to SC's top quality defensive line and linebacking. Control the line of scrimmage, and Hawaii will be forced to throw the ball to get anything in this game.
That puts ANY scoring they get in the hands of Taylor Graham, an Ohio State transfer that was so talented he never goton the field in Ohio stadium before transferring to Hawaii. Graham was recruited as a"legacy" at OSO becuase fo his father's success there.
Hawaii had a poor D line last year thatreturns only 1. Brand new CB'sin this already bad defense....Regardless of who starts QB for SC, they have enough weapons to score at will on Hawaii, and Hawaii has nothing to respond....
Blowout warning!
Superchicken is right, -22 is a gift, take it....

from August 2, 2013 - Price was the son of Mike Price - UTEP and Washington State...maybe the young price was a chip off the old block and had a vice of frequenting Hawaii's Gentlemen's Clubs...
Head coach Norm Chow will expand his role after already making a personnel change.
Hawaii head coach Norm Chow announced on Friday that offensive coordinator Aaron Price has been dismissed from the program, according to the Associated Press.
Price joined Hawaii's staff in February after nine years with the University of Texas at El Paso. He was dismissed from the program for undisclosed reasons on the first day of Warriors' fall camp. Chow said "some issues have arisen," according to the Associated Press.
Price also served as the team's wide receivers coach, but Chow will oversee that position and the offense in his absence. Graduate assistants will be expected to expand their roles within the program.
Chow has a background as an offensive coordinator. He came through the college coaching ranks as an OC before landing Hawaii's head coaching job.

I think I may jump on the SC bandwagon. I need confirmation that, unlike the Sun Bowl, not only do they want to be there, but they want to play and at a high level...Steele is sky high on SC. Sure, they have depth issues, but I don't see that becoming an issue in this matchup.
Let's keep this string going with good info...I will play 3 in week 1. I am solid on Alabama -18.5 and Oklahoma St. -12.5....and I would like to see if I can lock down USC -22.5 for week 1...
thanks in advance for all the perspectives...let's beat the books...
