USC's future.....How bad really?

USC has had 2 great recruiting years and nobody good is leaving.

If the top talent is redshirted, this group will be around after the bowl lockout.

If you get over the hate for Kiffin, what are USC's REAL chances in the future?

I don't see this mess a being a death blow to USC.  What do you think?

 In 2-3 years you'll see the effects..........& about then I'm guessing Kiffin will be gone. Could be a 6-7 year hiatus for usc......

Kiffin might be the WORST possible coach to handle the situation.....causing massive player defections....maybe even more penalties +++
     * plus other teams would LOVE to kick their ass....so once down.....tougher to get back up

or ....maybe perfect for the job.......evidently nobody is a more "aggressive" / tireless recruiter and promoter......assuming big Ed Orgeron stays on board

2 good years of recruiting ?
they have been just killing the rest of PAC 10 for years....they have at this point SIGNIFICANTLY better talent than the teams they play.....no room for error now with only 15 though...

keep in mind all (except for next years bowl ban) is under appeal......decent chance ?.....penalty could be reduced to 5 lost instead of 10....

The 2011 recruits won't be affected much by the bowl ban so that won't stop them from going to USC.  I would rather have five 5 star recruits than twenty-five 3 star recruits.  It's the quality, not the quantity that counts.

Kiffin has a good coaching staff, tons of talent on the team, and an easy schedule this season.  Any loss this year would be an upset. 

I think USC's future looks just fine.

That makes no sense.  Why would they fire him after only 3 years?  Or do you think he will leave on his own? 

As long as he can recruit, and keep a good coaching staff, he will be a winner.  He did well at Tenn with a lot less against SEC schools.

 I don't think he'd get fired unless there's more violations or just lack of discipline in general. But once the sanctions set in (if they're not overturned or reduced) I could see him getting frustrated & leaving. In 2-3 years (once again if they lose 20-30 scholarships) they'll be sucking for talent & depth........then you'll see what kind of person/coach he is.

100% guarantee there will be more violations. he is THE most overrated Ass Clown I have ever seen.....EVER

 Not sure what it takes to be a good Ass Clown so I can't really argue with you about that.

 As far as Kiffen being a HC........he's only got 1 year of college HC'ing under his belt & managed to get to a bowl. I don't really care for the guy myself, but in all fairness I think it will take about 5-6 years of him being @ USC (as a HC......long enough to overcome any serious sanctions) to really know if this guy is any good or not.

 Ty Willingham gets my vote for most overrated coach.....even if he did run clean. I would also say Dennis Erickson.

Kiffin has a rough road ahead of him. Its going to be very difficult for USC for the next several years, and Kiffin, in my opinion, isnt the guy who I would want as the captain of my ship as it headed straight into the storm. first thing he has to do, is to learn to shut his whiney cake hole. I definitely agree with Boom, regarding him being an ass clown.

Agree.  I keep waiting for ASU to get scary. 

I guess even an average coach can do awesome things with awesome talent.

Nobody good is leaving.  They have tons of talent and a good coahing staff.

The point of this thread is to see why USC is in trouble.  I don't see it. 

they are losing 30 scholarships for 2 years. that means all those recruits are going somewhere else. Which means that in 2 years USC will suffer, coupled with the fact that they will have a down year or two and lose recruits to someone else in the Pac 10. Within 2 years Lane will be gone. USC is a stepping stone for a "real" gig on the NFL, not the Raiders lol. USC will have a very good team this year, don't get me wrong, possibly a good year the year after next but after that, watch out it is probably gonna get worse before it gets better.

Really? Post season play, with the bowl ban will have some affect on USC with some of the recruits opting to go to other schools, but the results from scholarship reductions is what is going to be a crippling blow 3 and 4 years down the road, when those recruits become juniors and seniors. You better enjoy their upcoming season, because after that, it will all be going downhill. I am a huge Bama fan, and I had to endure this same crap, and it affected their program for many years. Bama is a little different story.  They play in the SEC and have to recruit against SEC schools.  USC doesn't have the same competition.  I think it will go a little easier on us.  We'll see.

 

 Careful..............just because USC had a nice decade under PC doesn't mean it's gonna last. USC WILL lose recruits..............& the other pac10 schools will land a lot of them.

here is why it SHOULD be easier for trojans than bama.....besides the obvious (competition not nearly as tough)...the TALENT edge that usc enjoys.....bama did not

looking at the 2010 starting line-ups of TROJANS vs DUCKS.....their main competition it appears....(other teams similar or worse).....using Steele's PS #.....(which is looking at a recruits ranking coming out of high school.....the PS # is an average of 10 or so recruiting services).....skill level changes of course but same variance for most everybody.... 
      * cal and ucla appear closer talent wise...but rest don't....

I would think if some player was good enough to go to USC and they chose not to go, they would not want to play for some other Pac-10 (12) school. 

There are better football programs out there.

After all, if they want to be on a NC team, or play in a BSC bowl, their chances are better outside the Pac-10.

agree.....unless somehow UCLA gets it together in a BIG way....trojans don't really compete with PAC 10 schools for top prospects .....SURE ...in 2-3 years they might....

Name one team in NCAA history that bounced right back from these kind of sanctions in the way that you describe. 

There are none.

USC is unique. 

Only those of us close to USC understand what that means. 

The only time USC plays badly is when we have bad coaches.  We will have to wait and see what Kiffin has in mind.

That's the way I see it too.  Easy start should help the defense.  I think the offense is going to have to be pretty hot to outscore some of these teams.
