Cal is my team and I follow them closely. Am hammering Utah for the following reasons:
1. Utah is coming off a bye and has had 2 weeks to prepare
2. Cal has been winning due to generating turnovers which I don't think will continue
3. Cal has been playing mostly pass heavy teams and are not good against the run. Utah w/ Booker and Wilson should get some good gain's against that D.
4. Cal's o-line is not good and I think Utah will be able to apply good pressure against Goff
Anyone else have any other thoughts/insights to share? Would love to hear

I am waiting to make this bet as well, I see no rush. Utah isn't that respected at this point of the season even though they pounded Oregon senseless. They were not picked to be a title contender in the PAC12. California is 5 and 0 but who did they beat and by how much. They beat three mediocre teams by 1, 6 and 6 points. Before that they beat two pancake teams. If this line goes to Utah -6.5 anytime this week at my primary book I will pound it with a max bet.
My favorite angle for the Utah side of this bet which Calbear has not mentioned is the enormous home field advantage Utah has playing at 4600 feet. Defenses running sideline to sideline are bound to get gassed at 4600 feet and Utah knows it and will exploit this especially against this porous Cal defense in the second half.
Having said this waiting for a book to move in the direction you want is a risky proposition that might backfire. The public loves betting favorites and I'm guessing that later in the week Utah is favored by more than 7 points so I will wait a few days but not till Friday to place my bet. Cal indeed has a high first round draft pick at quarterback but I am betting Utah can throw him off his game by getting to hime with a rush before he can find open receivers. Having two weeks to prepare for this game and the Cal QB Goff is a another decided advantage for Utah.

Looking at Utah's games too I'm seeing they have won the turnover margin too and have mostly close wins too which is probably the only thing that is a little concerning here.
At the end of the day, Cal did not add any significant pieces since last year nor did the players gain so much experience that they are so much better. Cal eeked out some close 50/50 games, they are due for a blowout loss to a quality team.

I love Utah as well I just haven't locked it in just yet- I don't see Cal stopping the run and with Utah at home I think they will be at least 10- I see a few others I respect on Cal and that gave me pause but I just don't see it- Still locking at other angles on this game but I will probably end up locking in Utah- it is -6 right now at my book

But they won, again, which always dampens criticisms, no matter how legitimate, by virtue of actually avoiding the loss.

Yep. Everyone here is jumping on the Utah train...and there is a derailment just around the bend. I see Cal jumping ahead early and the Utes having to play catch-up relying on the arm of their erratic and injury-prone QB Wilson.

Just remember last year off a big win against Stanford, Arizona came into Utah and blew them up. So they are not invincible at home. Obviously they are a good well coached team but do not sleep on a Sonny Dykes coached team led by Goff. Oregons D is absolutely atrocious and they made Wilson out to look like Vince Young. Utah's O is not explosive and their D line is not as good as last year. I'll take the NFL prospect QB plus 7.5.
