Had a decent week going 6-4. Hit some big plays. I can't believe we're approaching week 10.
Ten Things We Learned
1. If you didn't watch the end of the UNC / Virginia game yesterday, you probably missed the call of the year by a coach. Larry Fedora and UNC scored a go ahead TD with about 4 minutes to play. UNC fought all day to come back and be in that position. But with a 28-27 lead and 4 to play, he calls for a onside kick. Instead of kicking it deep and "trying to play defense " he called for a onside kick. I'm telling ya.....that took balls. If they don't recover that not only would it have been the bonehead call of the year, it would have cost him his job IMO. Fedora pulled out the ole Les Miles playbook on that one.
2. Speaking of the mad hatter. It wasn't Les who pulled a " Les " this weekend. It was Hugh....WTF were they thinking in that situation? You have to kick the FG, make or miss you have to at least try! I have been hard on Bo all for years, and to be honest, maybe a little too hard on him this year. But with that being said, you just proved my point, Bo. Hey Bo......you have to throw that ball away! Im sure Hugh told him if it's not there, throw it away. But Bo made me proud as I have said many many times.....Bo NOT SmArT!!! Look, here is the facts about that game. LSU doesn't have the defense we're accustom to. Ole piss had there chances. I would say better luck next year, but in case of Old Piss...better luck next century?
3. This past week I was throwing hints around at the fact that Penn st was a live dog IMO.... Well, almost. They like Old Piss had there chances. Is it me or does it seem that Mr. Hackenburg might be and always has been.....slightly overrated? I think he is a nice talent, but this guy is far from being ready to go to the next level. Good thing he has another year in college to improve his skills. I think he needs it! On a side note, did anyone else see slime ball James Franklin arguing with the refs saying he didn't call that timeout at the end of regulation? I mean he clearly went to the side judge and said.....Timeout. Funny guy or Slime ball?
4. I have always kind of pulled for sparty....but after yesterday, I couldn't have been more pissed. That was clear IMO....They were trying to cover that spread. We can all play like these coaches dont know the spread....BS and BS. Ask Urban, he seemed to always conveniently know the spread. That was a tough pill to swallow if you had a Michigan ticket, but then again, that's what rivals do when they get the chance.....drive the " stake " in ya....
5. No Florida this week. But I did feel it would only be appropriate and "respectful " to mention how bad they are still. That is all.....
6. Will Charlie Strong make in Texas? I sure hope so. I know things look bad right now longhorns....But the best really is yet to come. This is a good football coach cleaning up this program. He even said before the year that the fans shouldn't expect any championships yet. I really like the guy, I think there should be more coaches like him in football instead of the Petrinos, Franklins and Kiffens of the world.
7. What is wrong with Virginia Tech? A once proud program with great tradition and history seems like a very very mediocre football team now. I'm not sure im calling for Beamers head yet, but at what point do ya? I would love to hear the thoughts of the Hookies fans and tell me what they think. I see zero play makers on offense and the coaching looks really bad right now.
8. I think TCU might be one of the best teams in the country. Im almost ready to say they might be the best one-loss team in the country. This is a complete football team playing at a high level right now. Patterson knows this is a special group and if things fall right, he might be there in the end with the final 4. Only thing I would be concerned with is, does TCU have the " street cred " to be talked about like that? We know if Alabama has one loss then we/us/the media have to rank them higher then any other 1 loss team. And that's what Im really getting at, will they get a shot if they run the table? The Alabama rule states, in the by-laws of 3:741.65....that even if they lose 3 or more games, they show still be ranked and viewed upon as better than you no matter the circumstance.
9. Gosh I hope we get some players back. Our starting LT was suspended right before kickoff yesterday. This team is riddled with injuries right now. We officially are down these starters.... 2 OL, QB, RB, TE and WR. 6 starters on offense!! But the good news is all but one should be back within 2 weeks. I think the defense is just flat out nasty... I hope no injuries occur on that side of the ball. Right now if you asked me what the best defense in the country might be.... I might say Clemson. Stanford, Louisville and Ole Miss are great. But this Clemson defense is pretty salty on all 3 levels.
10. 9 weeks gone. It's a shame too, we wait all year and it just seems to fly by. One thing I want to talk about before I close is the state of the forum. This week I mentioned starting a panel to help the forum. A group of us doing a serious conversation that could benefit the forum....But what was I thinking? Just look around at all the hate! The way some acted yesterday in Jimmy's thread was flat out disgraceful. What is the deal with all the trolling and constant negativity...I mean expect it from a few in here, cause trolls will be trolls. But too much of it has become annoying! Here is a good idea.....If you aren't here to help. S T F U! Covers needs a face lift, and the mods should step in and do something about it. Hey, good luck to everyone this week. See how easy that was? The best is yet to come.
