LBC... i'd say my favorite pick this week is Southern Miss... especially at the line i have... at (-15.5) it's not quite as lovely, but i think they win by 20+...

i've seen enough to revise this list...
 
1) Florida
2) Texas
3) USC
4) Bama
5) Okla St
6) Penn St
7) Va Tech
8) Cal
9) Ga Tech
10) Ol Miss
 
 
Oklahoma, even with Bradford, doesn't make the cut... last year Bradford would have never been hurt because he was never touched... he was touched a lot in one half against BYU... even if he comes back Oklahoma has issues... LSU is the only team i can see sneaking onto this list...

Like the add of Ga Tech. Unfortunate, but they are the class of the ACC. I hated to see Johnson come to the ACC. Plays old school football, plays smart, gets players, alot of people forgot what Navy was before he got there. Could very well go undefeated this year. Not in the same class as the top 3, but really good for ACC.

ksp... if you had to drop one team out of my top 8 and replace them with GT, which team would you drop?
 
obviously it has to be between Penn St, VT or Cal...
 
really tough to drop Cal, in my opinion... they have all the pieces... great O-line, great D-line, great secondary, possibly the best RB... as long as Riley keeps getting all day to throw i think he can be solid...
 
for VT it all comes down to the defense... i think the running game will be there, and of course they have great coaching and ST... i know Taylor will play well as long as the other aspects come together...
 
Penn St fucked me last week, but during the half that they actually played football, they were about as dominant as you can be...
 
so it's tough to find a place for GT... i suppose i would drop VT before the others, but it's hard to say...

I would have to give VT the boot. Spot on on the PSt and Cal assessment. VT still a ? IMO. Time will tell, they still need some adjustments in the CU game.

whether they win or lose, i need to see how they finish out this game... LSU is first in line to move up, i think... still gotta see how week 2 plays out, also...
 
i think whoever moves up is a bit inconsequential, since i am mostly looking at the top 8 as the elite group..

Ole miss did not look good IMO.  Oklahoma didn't look that good w bradford.  i'd also consider adding any of the 4 outcasts to the list.... they have to outdo each other every week as they are fighting for basically 1 spot which should produce a large % of covers with victories.....

i don't think any of those are among the 8 best teams in CFB, which is the point of the list... maybe Boise or TCU could be top 10, at best... and i don't care too much where they are or end up in the polls... just trying to figure out who the 8 best are... pretty much settled on it, but gonna see what some teams do this week...

Hey Ice .. Can u run down the number of return starters that you use in help handicapping a game . I can't find the post in which you mentioned that . Is the number 17 return starters or more ? I know you said they must have more returning starters than their opponent . Thanks

upside i don't use any formula with retuning starters... early in the year i factor in heavily returning starters to my overall handicapping... but i don't think there is any specific magic number...

i think i answered this on the other thread, but it was probably hard to find amid the other stuff...

i'm sure it is a letdown spot... obviously they knew last week was a huge game for them, and this is just Houston... but it doesn't matter to me... the line is still off by 10 points, and i had already decided Okie St is the team to bet on every week of the year regardless of the spot or the line... i'm not gonna try to guess which 2 or 3 games they aren't going to cover, especially when a team like Houston is the ideal matchup for them...
