Went 13 - 3 this past week. Good week overall. OK boys, get ready...... I got a lot on my mind. Let's Go!
Ten Things We Learned
1. 5 of the AP Top 10 went down this weekend. So let's break this down a little here. How? College football has more parity right now then it has ever had. When you look at the majority of college football there isn't a whole lot that separates good vs good and great vs great. Of the 5 top ten teams that lost, 3 were on the road. Every week I talk about this and how important home field is in this sport. The other 2 were UCLA and Oregon, sorry PAC12, the truth hurts and the PAC 12 is nowhere ready to claim being the best conference in college football, not by a long shot.
2. This next piece I call, The Alabama rule. What is the Alabama rule you say? The Alabama rule is when they lose don't show them the same type of punishment you would show another top 10 team when they lose. 5 Top 10 teams went down 2 of them dropped 8 spots and the other 2 10 spots. So why does Alabama only drop 4 spots? Look, don't get mad at me and scream and cuss and say I'm not but a hater and this and that....Look, that's a fact. Why? I'll tell you why if you will listen, it's called the Alabama rule. And college football fans and the rest of the world is tired of bowing down to this nonsense. It's almost like we have this built in forgiveness rule for these guys. Look!!! Enough is enough!
3. OK Florida fans, As you know I played you guys this week and won. But let me say this. Damnit I feel dirty! As you already know Jeff Driskel is a flat out Clown. WTF is cat holding a D1 scholarship? Check this out, 11/23 59yds and 3 int. Wow, my drunk cousin with only 3 fingers could do better than that. I almost think I cursed you guys some how. By playing you guys yesterday and winning that barn burner 10-9 they might give Mushchump a contract extension. So I win both ways. I win the bet and possibly the chance of writing about Florida for more years to come. Good job Mushchump, tell em how you really feel!
4. Last week I gave the scenario about Team A, Team B and Team C. Well, To prove my point I think it worked out pretty well. Team B was not only ranked but they beat the #2 team in the country and what happened? They moved them all the way from not being ranked to 10th. That right there is proof these pollsters have no clue. If it was up to me I would say NO poles until after the first weekend in October every year. Plus, this would help with the Alabama rule. Or would it? Nah....Who am I kidding? The Alabama rules lives on!!!
5. I think it's time we talk about the state of Mississippi. Is this the best state in country now for college football? Hey, Psst... Don't tell the state of Alabama, but it is right now. Look, Ole Miss has a top notch defense that plays a little nasty. But I think, as most of you, Ole miss down fall will come. Why? Bo Wallace. This guy is ticking time bomb. Question is when will all blow up? I personally think Miss st is the better team right now. But as I say all this you have to keep one thing in mind. Neither of these teams have " been there " before. So, what does that really mean? You know....
6. I think it's time UMASS shuts the program down. They were literally on the verge of winning there first game since 1982. Leading 41-14. All 13 people in the stands drinking king cobra's and singing We are the Champions....and then it happened. Miami Ohio goes on a 28-0 run to end the game. WTF is wrong with you guys? I'm being serious too. It's not like you have a Jeff Driskel leading you to the promise land. You actually have a decent QB who can spin it. If you can't win after leading 41-14. Shut it down.
7. I found it funny that this week the mighty power house Vanderbilt was talking chit about Todd Gurley. Calling him just another back and what not. Hey Vandy, here is a secret. STFU! You are Vanderbilt and why are you talking chit anyways? You might not even win another game this year. Finishing 1-11 with a win over that UMASS team I was just talking about...good one Vandy!
8. How about the " youth movement " in college football these days? I really think the 7 on 7 and year around clinics these kids are attending are making them " ready " as soon as they step on campus. I know personally from watching my team we are loaded with young talent. At one point yesterday there were on the field... QB, 3 WR and RB all true freshman. 5 true freshman playing and all seriously doing work. As the game evolves we must too also. The days of watching freshman just red-shirt are over.
9. Iowa st AD went off yesterday in the post game press conference and to be honest with you, he should have. I know a lot of people like to turn the blind eye to these sort of things but there has always been a " Have and Have not's " of college football. So in short, what he did was speak for everyone. I have watched these guys get the shaft several times and other teams as well. This really goes on when " lesser valued " teams are playing the " big boys " of the conference. Will it ever change? Nope.
10. The half way point is rapidly approaching us. You think the season has been crazy so far? I don't think we have seen anything yet. I personally believe that there will be a conversation about at least 2, 2 loss teams vying for that 4 team playoff spot...and of course the Alabama rule is always in effect. But nevertheless, college football is about to get seriously crazy. So whether you are up or down, take a deep breath. When capping these games I always tell people to remove what the TV and ass-clowns are saying on it. Use your eyes. Understand the truths about match ups and always keep in mind where the game is played. Tons of variables must be used when picking a game for whatever reason. Most importantly have fun and remember it's just a game and everything else will fall into place....and remember, The best is yet to come.
