Nice rationalization. It's only speculation that Joe hated Sandusky......fact is that Joe DID NOT fire him....he resigned. And, it does seem a bit odd that, as you say, Joe knew about the 1998 investigation and yet.....with all the power Joe possessed.....the perv was still allowed to use Pedo State's athletic facilities and attend athletic events sponsored by the university. Shit stinks, and you can maintain that Joe was innocent, naive, senile or whatever, but the facts make all that crap hard to swallow. But hey, recruiting is going well and admissions are up, so all is good, right? Some people are shameless.

it pains me but i agree with wise on this espn had a witch hunt for Paterno to get fired than whne they got what they wanted they didn't care anymore. They ganged up on Paterno. Not saying he didn't deserve to get fired but it was "convinient" they really didn't talk about it anymore once Joe Paterno lost his job

Perhaps Curley lied in that original email, although why is anyone's guess. Perhaps Paterno forgot about the meeting (a decade had passed by the time the then 84-year-old testified in front of the grand jury). Or perhaps Paterno was trying to cover his tracks by not mentioning it under oath.
The other possibility is that the meeting did take place and Paterno supported turning Sandusky over to child welfare but Curley, after "giving it more thought," overruled Paterno's position and changed direction.
This is written by a Penn State hater in Dan Wetzel. Even this jackass can be objective and understand we really dont know what this means but whatever you want it to mean yourself.

Sports is just sports. As much as we all love sports, success on the field is insignificant when compared to human lives, and the free enjoyment thereof.
At the major college level, sports isn't just sports. It's money. Money is why Penn State covered this up: the money generated by its football program. Protecting that precious revenue source was the motive in this case.
The reason I love college sports much more than pro sports is my antiquated notion that college sports is somehow purer because they are amateur athletes. I'm delusional.
What this horrible saga amply demonstrates is that money made from sports programs is a horrifically pernicious influence on academic institutions. It is especially appalling at a public, taxpayer-funded school.
And all the while the athletes are getting screwed because they share none of the bounty. Crack Baby Basketball League, indeed.
