Texas has mishandled this thing with Mack from the get-go; this is the first big decision/test of the new AD and I'm not impressed. We had how many speculative media reports on Mack - he's staying, he's resigning, he's staying, he's resigning .... giving schools like Bama and Auburn time to lock in their coaches with contract extensions and coaches like Peterson to make their move - not to say that any of these coaches would have gone to Texas but they sure as hell aren't now since Texas drug the thing out with Mack for so long. Not impressed UT ....

Frank Beamer needs to join his buddy Mack Brown. Nice run for both of them, but being a head coach in major college sports can take it's toll.
Heck they should look at Bud Foster. He is a defensive guru and if he could get that talent down there to play his defense then that would be something.

Maybe get Cowher down there.

*the Saban fiasco was orchestrated by Saban's agent...and the media....Texas had little to do with it ...they just went after the best coach *as we have seen.....coaching contracts are meaningless....just because a coach signed an extension doesn't mean he won't leave if the $$ is right *Gruden is (maybe) the next coach of the sorry Dallas Cowboys..

the idea was for Mack to retire when he did. This past Fri/Sat when he returned from his trip. There was some guessing and possibly someone from the Board of Regents let it slip that he was leaving Texas and everyone rushed to be first with the rumors.

Texas donors are being told that Jim Harbaugh is who they're going after now....and that they ARE prepared to go to 10 mil if necessary
*as many of you know...if you give a ton of cash to any university...political campaign whatever....that gives you the 'ear' of key guys involved...or THE guy....depending on how much you give
The logistics of a move like this would seem to be a nightmare.. *he couldn't announce he's leaving during a SB run *you couldn't keep it a secret to recruits..."we can't tell you who it is....but just trust us...the new coach will be awesome".......
Guessing this kinda stuff is just for show... *to satisfy Horn backers....now they can say...."well we TRIED to get Saban.....Harbaugh ++++.....
and the answer AGAIN...to why in TF would he leave? *5 million in SF (with 12-13% state income tax)...vs 10 million in Texas (no state income tax)

Packers, Im worried Gus might go to Texas. He would be a fool with most starters coming back.I think Auburn's backup Qb Jeremy Johnson wl win the Heisman befor he leaves.

Bookie, That Gruden idea may have legs but there is always the Jerry Jones issue and what decent coach would put up with that thing?
The Tx. coach? From now on the coach will be a prostitute to the donors. Deloss was the big loss for Tx. in this crazy political deal.
Funny....maybe Texas has the same problem as Dallas
WINNING.....is somehow... not the bottom line
The Cowboys?.....ultimate organizational goal is twofold.... * for Jerry to be the face of the team...and finally receive his due (in his mind) as a 'football guy' *to make money
eg. when searching for a coach....JJ has ZERO interest in finding the BEST coach.....his criteria is somehow he can 'work with'
Likewise.....Texas is talking about finding a 'telegenic guy'....that would look good / sound good.....on that miserable failure called the Longhorn Network......... *maybe a good ole boy type...representing what Texas stands for.....a rancher type that can coach kinda.......................say what *and...."no way we take coaches from 'lesser schools' such as Baylor...A&M...TCU or Okie St".......
Watching the Steelers take apart a more talented Cincy team.....BOTH teams actually need Mike Tomlin in a bad way......
Gruden would come back for the right deal.... meaning control AND money
JJ is maybe too cheap....(Garrett 'only' makes 3 mil or so)...to cough up the 5 mil+..... to get Gruden as he somehow makes 4.5 mil or so with ESPN......... *JJ is not as much of a control monger as most think...he mainly wants to feel a part of the decision making process...Gruden might let him be involved (as Parcells did for awhile) to a degree...if the money is right.....I think Jerry is tired of getting laughed at (and booed in his own stadium)...and might consider it............someday before he dies
*Texas offers him 7-8 mil?......a weird fit.....but who knows ....
