Heavy lean to Ohio State here. The big ten teams are just relieved they don't have to play USC. I think the Ohio State d will be able to slow down the Oregon offense. One thing that does concern me is that if Ohio State gets off to a bad start. If they get down, they might have a tough time recovering. This is definently just a lean and will be back later

You are on the wrong side Sharp

OSU will have no problem manhandling Oregon at the line of scrrimage thus negating most of Oregon's offense

Big difference in strength of schedule here, tied for the 5th largest differential, according to Phil Steele, and it's the largest of any BCS bowl.

    5. Rose Bowl: Oregon (9) vs Ohio St (64) Schedule Difference: 55

Danstyk - does this mean I'm on the same side as Phil Steele again?  Imagine that... 2 teams are playing and we're on the same side again... coincidence?  Or with the 50/50 odds, mean we'll end up on the side of plenty of games?  Sharp

Mr. Insight - good luck with Ohio State... I'm taking strength of schedule, speed, and Ohio States inability to stop the spread.  Sharp

This is a tough one for me to decide on.  I think that OSU defense will be able to somewhat contain Oregon, but I think Pryor is going to turn the ball over.

Lean Oregon right now... SOS differential is too large to ignore

I REALLY like Ohio State in this game!!!! Ohio State has 3 shutouts this year; they have allowed a touchdown or less in 5 games; they have allowed 14 points or LESS in 8 of there 12 games; & in & those 8 games while allowing 14 points are LESS, the total points that they have given up is: 51!!!!! I FEEL that Ohio State will handle & STOP Oregon's offense. To tell you the truth, Oregon has NOT played a team that has a REALLY GOOD to GREAT defense since they played Boise State the first game of the year & look what Boise's defense did to Oregon.......Oregon did not get a first down against Boise State until the 3rd qtr!!! I know that it was the first game of the year, BUT Boise's Defense came to play, I can't say the same about Oregon's offense!!!

As for Oregon, yes, they do have a very explosive offense (No Doubt about that!!) but again, I feel that Ohio State will really contain them!! Oregon's defense has improved throughout the season, BUT they STILL give up A LOT of points per game!!!

IF Ohio State scores 24 points, I feel that they will win this game easily, because of the defense.  If they don't, I still feel that Ohio State will win the game, but it will be as easy!!!

Final score:  Ohio State 35    Oregon 17

Sharp -- total coincidence. I'm not at all suggesting you are playing Phil's picks.

And for the record, the strength of schedule #'s are of no help at all so far.  Especially these Pac 10 teams.   Still, I like Oregon here now that OSU has handed out three suspensions of key players for this game.

This really scares me to say it, but I think this is the year the BIG 10 does very well in the bowl games - I like:

    Penn State
    Iowa
    Ohio State

OSU will not flop again on national TV...Pryor makes me nervous, and Oregon has the speed and the prolific offense, but I believe it is safe to say they have not played a defense anywhere near as good as Ohio STate's this year (Boise maybe, but Oregon is certainly a much better team then they were at the start of the season).  Oregon barely got by the Beavers in the Civil War, and the Beavers were embarrassed 2 nights ago by BYU...THE SWEATER wins outright and collects his first Rose Bowl Trophy

If anything I think the long layoff hurts the Ducks more and may get off to a slower start like they did against Boise(Though they never got on track in that one) but this Oregon team is focused. They'll be ready. Ducks -3.5 Circus Circus Reno Nevada. Watch out for Ducks again next year. Only 4 seniors on the 44 man roster. I'll take the under as well whatever it is.

Oregon has too many weapons. Maehl, James, Massoli and Blount. Blount will run hard to showcase his talents since he didn't get much of a chance in the season. As great as OSU's "D" is it will wear down and Oregon will have it's first 11-2 season and it's first Rosebowl victory in 92 years. Ducks by more than a field goal.

How BAD is the Pac-10???  Not looking good so far, especially after a slightly above average Husker team DEMOLISHED a hyped AZ team.  HEAVY lean to OSU at +3 and ML.

How can any of you consider even taking Oregon unless you play for fun only. If you truly believe oregon wins this game than please do not read the rest of my post. The Big Ten is playing to a schedule of competition in these bowls that is sub par. Tressel is a phenomenal Coach that will have his team ready to stifle oregon. Pryor is ready and the team will play to Win. This game will be similar to the Neb/Zona game - Pac 10 is weak and fragile and Big Ten is big and disciplined (smarter too). If you have not seen Bucks Def. than you will understand what I am talking about when watching this game. Bucks will run all over Ore. and mix up the pass for big plays and a couple wild cat plays - relax oregon fans because your team is still a big fish in a weak pac 10 pond

    Bucks 34 - 10

Pac 10 can't be that weak they both played USC in their own barns.  USC beat the Suckeyes 18-15 and how did Oregon make out.  That would be a 47-20 thrashing of USC.  Give me the Ducks.   This will not be a cake walk in fact it will be a great game but Orgeon wins this one by no fewer than 4 or 5.

    Oregon fairly easy.
    1. The BCS games (especially the Rose) are nice because you don't have to worry too much about if the teams are motivated (except for the loser of the SEC title game though this year I think Fla will be ok)
    Reasons for OR:
History: OSU just doesn't perform in big games
OSU's D did come on but the recent tiny win over an Iowa team with their backup QB worries me, they still allowed 24, so why all the raving about a D that shut down some mediocre offenses, yes Penn St is mediocre this year.
OSU's SOS they should be undefeated playing who they played yet 2 losses to a weak big 10 team and a USC team that Oregon destroyed?

I'd say a month to prepare would be a plus for OSU to prep for the spread attack but OSU hasn't gotten it together the last few years, same coach, etc., what changed, so that shouldn't help.

Maybe OSU surprises me like the Cowboys did against the Saints but only giving 4 I'll be on Oregon LARGE.

I am worried that OSU is going to be very motivated here because they have to win a dang bowl game.  The defense is the only advantage that OSU has.  Oregon has had an increadible run this season.  Pryor is the leading rusher on this team people........and his rushing total is only half of what the little jitterbug running back that Oregon has.  Not to mention, Pryor has a bum knee.  It's cold in northern Indiana right now, so I think it's safe to go out on the pond and go fishin for a lunker.  I'm pounding Oregon.

Buckys SOS-61, Ducks SOS-7, SC whped the buckies and the duckies whiped SC.  Aaron Pryor's son (Richard's nephew) has bum knee.  Another new years debacle for the sweater vests.
