I lost 50 pounds on nutrisystem. I didn't eat any fast food during that span.
I stopped nutrisystem, slowly got back into the fast food crave again and gained the weight back and then some.
Same thing with soda. I didn't have soda for 2 years...had it once and got hooked again.
It's all the same thing. The only difference is alcohol is worse. What's the saying? Once you're recovering...you never go a day without recovering? Just like those meetings. They always start off with however many days or years sober because one relapse can start it all over again.
