First Year Baseball Fantasy Player... Advice On Pitching Needed

Im in a standard league with 9 pitching spots...

I have 6 starting pitchers: Felix Hernandez, Chris Carpenter, Clayton Kershaw, Jair Jurrjens, Johnathan Sanchez, Barry Zito

I have 3 Relief Pitchers: Ryan Franklin, Bobby Jenks, Brad Lidge

My only bench players are position players...

How many RP vs SP should i have on my roster and should i have at least 1 pitcher on the bench??

Any input appreciated...

If it is standard scoring, then I usually fill most of my bench spots with extra pitchers.  I would suggest to try and grab at least one more closer because Lidge isn't even closing so basically you only have 2 closers.  Some names to look for: Jason Frasor (Jays), Franklin Morales (filling in as Rockies closer for time being), Jon Rauch (Indians), Ryan Madsen (Phillies), Octavio Dotel (Pirates).  Not sure how deep your league is, but hopefully some of these guys are available.

I would also pick up at least 1 more starting pitcher.  How many bench spots do you get??

i just put lidge on DL... and picked up Ryan Madsen... so now i officially have 6 SP and 3 RP... I have 3 bench spots and just picked
up Liriano... so now i have 7 SP and 3 RP... one pitcher and 2 hitters on bench... just found out there was a spot for DL so i was able to keep lidge... just figured this out before i read your post... do you think i need to replace one SP with one more RP?

so you advise load up bench spots with pitchers? its a standard league with rotisserie scoring... 3 bench spots

List your team and will be easier to advise.  Also were any of the other closers I listed still available and how many can you start each day.

All those RP you mentioned are still around... Is Beltre worth keeping around hes off to a great start but bats 6th and been inconsistent over the past couple years... Thinking about bringing in Chase Headley to replace him.... Theres my team your thoughts/opinons are very much appreciated....

9 pitchers i start per day... I can start all those hitters except the two i have on the bench for that day...

Great looking team!!!  You should definitely be in contention to win this league by the looks of that.  How many teams???

Personally, I would probably drop Fowler for sure and pick up another pitcher.  You have enough speed so really don't even need him.  Sounds like guys are available in this league so if someone on your everyday roster does get hurt you probably be able to pick them back up or someone else close to it.  I like to load up on pitching early too because guys will get hurt throughout the season.

there are 10 teams... its a free league is why there are so many free agents left... i have a personal wager with a friend to make it interesting... ive got off to a slow start as Laroche has yet to get a hit... Michael Young only 1 hit , Brandon Phillips batting .182, Denard Span .068 ... Fowler got off to a good start batting .333 but its a marathon and everything should change... as for my speedsters you're right Fowler most likely will end up being the weak link... would you recommend Dotel or Rauch? Not sure if Dotel will get as many save opp. as Rauch.... thanks again for your opinions...

Dotel has yet to allow a run... he seems to be at the top of list of RP available...
