who should i take with the 5th pick?

Question

1/2 point ppr, 10 team league.  i am assuming the first 4 picks are going to be McCoy, Charles, AP, Forte...who do I take 5th?  Calvin? Lacy? Brees? Graham? Open to all suggestions....

I don&#x27;t particularly fancy Matthew Barry but I do generally read his articles. His draft day manifesto was just released and it brought up an excellent point about not getting too cute with your first 2 picks. He did a study for standard leagues and set a bench mark of 95 points. If you can reach that benchmark, you are likely to win 11 games and get to the playoffs. With that said, your first two picks should contribute 30% of that total. So you cannot afford to miss on this pick, or get cute, or reach, etc.,&#xD;&#xA;Generally, I do my own ranking, and will go with the best available player strategy. I do not religiously go RB-RB unless unique opportunities present themselves. With the 5th pick you could potentially get Megatron and the best available RB with your second pick, or go with any of the 4 RBs you mentioned with your 1st pick, if any fall to you and then scoop an AJ Green, Jimmy Graham, or Dez Bryant with your second pick.&#xD;&#xA;Currently I have Megatron ranked #5 and he should continue his remarkable career in full stride.

Good stuff Biz!I got burned last year by making myself go RB with the 6 pick (Arian foster) when all my top RB had been taken off the board. I should of gotten elite at one position and took a top WR.Jimmy Graham is another consideration, but with 3 WR starting I can&#x27;t afford to be weak there......I don&#x27;t like drafting from the 5-6 spot

Personally, I like Lacy at 5th overall. Imo, he&#x27;ll likely get 400&#x2B; touches with double digit touchdowns barring injury. However, doing a bunch of mock drafts, I&#x27;ve noticed that going WR with the first 3 picks and then ending up with RB&#x27;s like R.Jennings, Chris Johnson, Joique Bell, Gerhart, Ben Tate, SJAX, Spiller, Ridley, Vereen, Sankey (3 of those). Doing this makes your WR&#x27;s look like this, Calvin, AJ Green, Dez, Marshall and Alshon, Cobb, Andre Johnson or Vincent Jackson in the flex. In my opinion, WR is the NEW RB so that&#x27;s how I would go... Definitely can&#x27;t go wrong taking Lacy with the 5th overall though.

I think it is going to come down to Lacy or Calvin. Lacy should be a beast and will get the goal line TDs. He did get banged up a bit last year, and I do worry about the sophomore slump. However, that division is full of teams that can light up the score board so there should be plenty of shootouts for him to shine.

I can't afford to make a crappy first round pick here, I am going to kick this idea around for the next month or so before the draft. If I go Lacy then I can almost guarantee that Calvin, A.J. Dez, Marshall, and Alshon will all be gone. Not sure how Lacy and AJ are going to look 1-2.

On a side note, I will stay far away from VJ this year. Lovie gets off the bus running the football and I am not in love with McCown in the Lovie system....I think Tressman is a QB genius and we will see a major drop off in production in Tampa.

In a 10 team league, if you pick Lacy at 5, pick 16 and pick 21 will still have a huge talent players available (i.e. Thomas, Dez, AJ, Marshall, Julio, Foster, Jimmy G, Montee Ball, Alshon, Cobb, Jordy, Stacy, Brees, Manning...). You'll definitely still get 3 stud picks in the first 3 rounds weather you take Lacy or Calvin. Can't go wrong with either. Personally, I'm super high on Lacy this year.

Somehow, someway (unless you are the guy who gets Jimmy Graham or goes off the radar and takes a QB), try and have RB-WR as your first two picks. You would cement a foundation and build the rest of your draft with focus on depth. I really like to have each position solidified as opposed to be top heavy on one position. Although, if I were to be top heavy I would focus more on the RBs.

When you look at the history, Manning has made backs look really good, so that bodes well for Mr. Ball. I&#x27;m just concerned with his pass blocking and whether he has put his fumbling issues aside. Maybe things will be different a year from now, but today I have Lacy ahead of Ball. Lacy looked good last year and should be even better with A-Rod back in the mix.
