Dont listen to this guy. Your BMR is 10x your body weight, give or take. So for your body to stay at 300 pounds, it needs roughly 3,000 calories per day.
What you have done is started to eat like a man that weighs 150 lbs, which is a lot closer to your "ideal" weight of 200-220. It stands to reason you are losing weight. Each pound of fat is aprox. 3500 calories. So, by diet alone you should lose about 3 pounds per week for the first few weeks. As you lose the weight, the weight loss from diet alone will taper off (logically). The excercise is the key once you've reach a plateau in weight loss from diet alone.
When you get down around 240ish, you will need to excercise more to get that last bit off.
So yeah, you are starving yourself. But 1500 calories is actually very sufficient if you make them count. Fruit/veggies and lean meat should be the staples of your diet. Eliminate fluid calories (soda/beer/milk/juice) and try to add a little more protein and a few less carbs(not preaching, just telling you what worked for me).
Keep it up bro, its great to hear
So many stupid clueless fucks in this section of the forum.
