I hate to say never, but you will most likely not gain 40-50 lbs of solid mass unless you do use roids, and lots of it. if you eat a proper diet and workout regularly the best you can hope for is probably 20-25 lbs, and that would take a year or longer.
live with the fact that god gave you what you have and consider it a blessing. you said save the jokes cuz you've heard them all... that's probably why you want to change your body and improve your self image. but the same people who were making fun of you back then would probably kill to have your body now(but you probably heard that a lot, too)
I think a realistic goal would be adding 15-20 lbs. I know that's not what you want to hear, but once you start getting serious about fitness and nutrition you will immediately feel a change and understand it's more important to feel good than look good. I would also recommend doing it the natural way. you have a rigorous work schedule and it would be foolish to jeopardize your health and livelihood to impress some random strangers.
