Last several years my diet has been excellent - Low Carb & very healthy choices. I gave up Booze & made a consistent effort to eat well. I lost alot of fat around my belly and toned up significantly............
........Unfortunately the end of last year i let myself go a little while we were on X-mas holidays and continued to eat junk into early 2012........I then decided to gain for about 2 or 3 months to bulk up. Unfortunately the bad eating habit continued post-gain as a result of the majority of the year eating junk. It is now December & it's almost been a year of this horrible pattern in my diet.
I decided start of Novemeber that i would cut the carbs & junk and start eating clean. But it's just been too long now and have been giving into my cravings. IF anybody remembers me i'm the one who started that 'How to lose a beer gut' thread which got 10+ pages. I also have been eating after 7-8pm which i have not done for almost 2-3 yrs prior to this year. How do i not give into my cravings and tips to stay full and satisfied that i dont eat and get hungry after 7-8 pm.....................

One trick I use is to eat the healthy stuff first.....so I don't eat quite as much of the maybe not so healthy stuff. For example, sometimes I'll eat an apple or some carrots or whatever....good fiber.....about 15 minutes before I actually have "lunch." After 15 minutes, I'm not nearly as hungry so I'll eat a lean pork chop with maybe a half of a potato (but I'll lube it up with a decent amount of light sour cream). So you get some protein and also a little bit of a carb fix.....and some fat (which you do need).
Or sometimes I'll do tostitos (not great for you) with guac (good for you) for an appetizer. And then I'll throw in a turkey sandwich (homemade turkey, not that crap they slice at the deli) and maybe some fruit or veggies with light ranch. Half a bag of M and M's for dessert.
If I've eaten really healthy for a few days, my body craves something not good for you.....and I'll indulge and not look back.
For me, it's impossible to eat healthy all the time so I try to kind of intermix so I get the things that are good for you, but still get some satisfaction along the way.

I typically eat grapefruits like they are oranges. Just something I have always loved and they help to fill me up prior to eating my breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.
Helps me a great deal with my cravings.

you can ask for all the advice and tips ect but at the end of the day the strength of your willpower is what will or won't get it done.

Not much suffering if just want to drop pounds....... "Competing" sure..... but just dropping pounds and trimming up shouldn't be that hard.
There are plenty of foods that taste great and are good for you. Just gotta try to stick to those.
for me the mention of 'suffering' triggered the motivation in me & was exactly what i needed to re-focus and get back into gear after almost a year of lazy dieting/and mental lapses. I badly want a six pack. W/ 2 kids both being under 5 yo, a mortgage and work it's very difficult to find the time to plan meals and work outs so it's very easy to get into a funk. It's much easier to just give in and eat what ever just to satisfy hunger than actually discipline yourself to eat clean on a daily basis year in and year out. and w/ that sort of schedule and commitments it's easy to fall off and fall into temptations.
'Suffering' is exactly what i needed to hear to get back on track mentally. Suffer may not be to the extent of the level of sacrifices some of you may go through but i go through it none the less wether it's trying not to eat that piece of carb before bed after a week of very minimal carbs or doing that last rep at the end of a very tiring work out.
I answer to suffering because i've been through alot of hardships and know that only positive things come from suffering if you learn to aknowledge blessings. I'm rambling, hella tired right now......

atm i've scheduled myself to eat zero-minimal carbs (30-40gm) 5 days a week and then have weekends off & allow myself carbs. This way long term i won't end up binging after years of resistance & discipline.
What do you think of the 5 days no carbs and 2 days on weekends permit carbs sort of system?!

IMO........ I would definately do low carb if trying to drop weight. But that's hard to do. 30-40 is pretty extreme. If was me, I'd shoot for 75.
Dropping weight is 90% nutrition. Really need to get a grip on the diet. And I don't know how people do it without cooking their own food.
If time is a challenge, cook a few days at a time. Make a few days of chicken per batch. That's what a lot of people do.

to be honest i try to aim for 30-40 but i know it's way more on some days - pretty sure over 100gm's.

looks like you've been reading up on the ketogenic diet ?
it's an effective way to lose fat but those carb 're-feeds' are also an important part of it. For some it might be a high carb day, or two days of high carbs (see the 'anabolic diet') or it might just be half a day of high carbs or even just one high carb 'cheat' meal for the week.
Depending on how lean you are / how much fat you need to lose, will determine how big or how small of a carb rebound you allow yourself.
You might surprise yourself 3Ball in how good you actually feel / perform / function on very low carbs. For a lot of people the first few days are tough until your body makes a switch to 'burning' ketones.
Personally I do much better restricting carbs at certain times of the day, even when I'm in a 'bulking' phase. Am currently trying 'carb backloading' - where you eat very low / no starchy carbs at all through the day until after your workout. Then you consume a all your carbs for the day in the two / three meals post your workout.
Even in the first week on this my workouts have been vastly improved - eating just protein / fats all day prior to hitting the gym has kept my blood sugar levels really stable during training, as opposed to the bouts of hypoglycemia that used to hit after eating a high carb meal pre-workout.
Anyway, stick with what you're doing and you're sure to see the results you're after.

ketogenic diet? i don't know what that is. I'm just trying to tweak my schedule within this diet & see if the changes work for me. Unfortunately what the 2 day weekend of permitted carbs did was made me crave the bad food more during the week. So i cut it down to just Saturday and then that didnt work so i cut it out all together and just try to do minimal carbs every day.
On bad days i probably do close to 100+ carbs and some of that after 7 or 8pm....wich we all know is a no no.

in my first 2 years low carbing i was an absolute beast. my discipline and determination was on point. i prob did 50gm carbs p/day. I toned up significantly while shedding belly fat. And yes energy wise i was still good. as long as your still consuming iron, magnesium, protein and complex carbs your good.

I have been attempting this for years in order to lose this belly fat and let me tell you what I have done recently and it's working VERY well. "You eat what's in front of you." My Grandma says this every day. Mostly cause she has dementia, but still she does say it. And I finally took it to heart.
As long as I can remember I would go shopping and get whatever and just attempt to still eat clean and save the junk for my cheat day. And for as long as I can remember I would just graze that shi.t all week.
For the past two months I have stocked my house with nothing but bags of frozen chicken breasts for meals along with rice, and TONS of fruit. I mean a ton. And I still eat a lot it's just not a bag of chips, its a bowl of fruit. I am shedding LBs. And fresh fruit is great so I don't complain.
Anyway, that's my key to success and it is working wonders.
