If I would have gone straight thru I would be on day 60 right now but I have taken numerous breaks since I started. Probably = to 40 days juicing and 20 days eating. (of those 20 probably 10 eating complete crap. / 4 drinking).
I have been consuming nothing but juice since feb 1 and am determined to make it through the month with no food.
All togeather I have lost about 4o lbs. my goal is to lose another 25 this month. Still going strong losing about a pound a day, though once I start nearing my high school weight I am preparing for it to come off a little slower.
I think that this is going to be the start of a new lifestyle for me once I hit my goals. If I catch myself putting on pounds I will hit up a 10 day juice fast.
I know a couple of you guys were going to give it a shot. Any luck?
A couple things I have noticed.
Juice with lots of fruit makes me hungry faster
Naked juices (when I am running late or do not have time to juice) also make me feel hungry.
DrinkIng lots of water is key. (1.5 gallons for me)
V8 spicy tomato juice is awesome.
If you juice tomato. Carrots. Celery. Parsley. Cilantro. And horseradish and heat it up. You have just made your juice a soup. Much more satisfying on cold days.

Club. I have been mixing flaxseed meal in my juice. Forgot to mention that. 2 tbs per 16oz. Have not eaten almonds. No real rules, it is all about what you set up. My wife is still eating veggies beans pasta etc and she is losing weight too. Even if you cut your meal size down and supplemented w/ some juice. I think you would see results.

I don't get the drinking of excess water, kinda wierd
What juicing means to me is to intake all the beneficial goodies from fruits and veggies, without the fiber. Then you are going to quickly rinse nutrients out of your system with more water
I've tried some juicing, and was surprised that some of the veggie ones tasted pretty ok, but i don't understand the advantages of it. I think i'll stick to eating my fruits and veggies. Maybe a random juicing when i have some cheap bulk produce, or an occasional OJ mixer for bfast
on my current diet, i do a morning rabbit turd and thats it. If i eat some crap, i get a rumbling belly and a toilet full of mess

Generally drinking the water serves to reduce hunger. If I drink enough water I am never hungry. If I neglect drinking water, I can get pretty hungry, first thing I do when I wake up is drink about 32 ounces of water. Because digestion is essentially simplified you really aren't going to "rinse the nutrients out". My pee is really really clear all of the time. I think that means I am not peeing all of the nutrients out right?
For me, there are many advantages.
-Simplicity, No counting calories, formulas or special considerations. You just drink juice 4 or 5 times a day. It is not difficult to stay away from the wrong types of food, because you are not eating food. For me a 100% prohibition is very helpful, because even when eating the "right" types of food it is easy to eat too much.
-highlights a lot of bad habits. I have really analysed how I eat food, what I eat, and essentially every angle of my food intake. When you see that you can survive on 4 (12-16 ounce) juices a day, it really makes you think about your overall relationship with food, and highlights a lot of your bad habits.
-There is some evidence that says that you can absorb much more of the nutrients in a juice than you can through eating the vegetable.
-I have never had so much energy. When I have cheated or gone off the diet, I have been very sluggish, I was amazed at how great I have felt during this diet.
I hate to sound like an infomercial, or someone that has stock in a juicer company or something, but this is the only thing that has legitimately worked for me. I have struggled with weight gain since I got back from Iraq in 2008, and was on my way to becoming pretty fat. My uniforms were not fitting, and I was not passing PT tests. IT could have really effected my career in the Army Reserves. This brought me back from the brink.
I have told a few of my bigger friends about it, and one of them is trying it. He is doing great on it too. It seems really radical, and in a lot of ways it is, but has definitely been a really positive force in my life for the past couple months.

I challenge anyone that is healthy enough to try it , to give it a shot.
one of the programs that I have heard about is a 10 Day reboot. I would be surprised to hear of anyone that does the reboot and is not impressed with their results.

i'm just not a big fan. I changed my diet and lost 80 lbs, and feel more energized than i ever did in my 20's. I don't have to eat a lot or eat often either. Like i said, i have a juicer now, so when i have bulk veggies rather than let them rot, i will probably juice them, and i like the orange juice it makes sowill prolly make that once in a while. I like the green juice from jointhereboot.com. I grow as much of my own food as possible, and it will always produce seconds

First of all, I have no idea the merits of a all juice diet so I won't comment on that, but it is generally recommended that you should not lose more than 2-3 pounds per week. Anything above than can have health consequences. Also, and I'm not 100% on this one, but I think large fluctuations in weight might not be healthy as well... ie indulging then fasting over and over.
All the best of luck in your weight loss but remember health and wellness should always be your focus more so than weight.

yes and no
if you eat an evolution based diet, than you would be fine with gorging yourself on a great feast from time to time, and than fasting in between. I fast/gorge all the time, but it doesn't really effect the body weight like you suggest. If anything, it promotes fat loss

I can understand that position if you are on a paleo diet... Although I would like to hear from a dietician as to whether or not it was actually healthy or not. I would assume not, but if you were on a paleo diet the impacts would probably be much less severe considering the fluctuation would be so much less, as it's hard to put on a lot of weight (body fat) with such a natural diet. I guess it is possible though..

I agree Disco, I consulted with my Dr. and had blood panels done. I was actually showing signs of fatty liver. He gave me the go-ahead, and I did my first fast.
On Monday I had another panel done. liver numbers = within healthy range. Along with a whole host of improvements in my overall health.
Mind you, I am still getting all of the calories 1800 to 2100 per day from the juice. This is not starvation.
My Dr. said that this is not something that he would recommend for someone with hearth problems or that was elderly, but there is no reason to stop someone my age from doing it. Especially when there was a recent history of fast weight gain.

Kudos for everyone trying to lose weight....it's harder than people think, especially as you get older. Are you guys using a juicer? If so,try granny smith apples with a lemon....totally the best lemonade you have ever had.Red apples(the big washington apples) and carrots are very good(tasty) too. From what i am reading, most of you need to up your protein or you will lose any and all muscle and look like a smaller version of a buddha.I like the amount of water you guys are drinking Most people get sagging skin under their arms and under their chin from not drinking enough water .Water makes the skin cells full so you don't have that sunken face look.More protein keeps your body from eating away your muscle growth and will eat away more fat.Remember....muscle burns calories and fat...just like a nice fescue lawn pushes out the weeds.Muscle keeps everything from going south too.I hope everyone is doing some kind of cardio and weights.....even 3 times a week will make a big difference.Good luck all.....doing something is better than doing nothing.

I am 6-4 and sitting at about 250 right now which I know is a little on the heavy side but it's not all fat, want to get down to about 230.
Was slowly trying to cut the carbs out but it didn't seem to be going so well weening off breads and pastas. So I went full paleo for about a week now and I have not noticed any decrease in weight per se but can feel a definite increase in energy.
At times I consume more than I should but its all protein and veggies with a little fruit mixed in. Only drink water, lemon water or home made ice tea no sugar.
Was thinking about adding juicing to the mix and cut down on cooked foods. More like blender smoothies to get the fiber as well. I did it before and it was relatively tasty, I mixed fruits and veggies and always had spinach in it. I have seen some people on straight raw diets and they look amazing.
Trying to sort all these eating concepts out, it can be overwhelming
Whats the benefit of straight juicing over blender type smoothies given the same ingredients?

To tell you the truth I am not sure. I have been told that it essentially cleans out your digestive system like a colon cleanse, but I am not sure I could back that up with any medical papers etc.
I have also heard that you can extract more nutrients (in volume) through juicing. That I would say is probably correct, but again can't back it up.
The blender smoothies are also most likely going to be higher in calories. I know some of the recipes I have show that the average 16 Oz smoothie can be up to 700 calories, whereas a juice of the same ingredients and size is only 450.
You should give it a shot for 10 days, I would be shocked if you didn't lose 20 lbs.
I have some friends and family who are straight raw diets, and you are right, they do look amazing.
