Bet Jamaica - "Fradulent Check '/ Check Cashing Issue

Has anyone tried to cash a check from betjamaica at a check cashing place?

The check cashing place told me it was a fraudulent check and are are going to give it to bank of america which they have to do by law. The check had a bank of america logo on there and the check cashing place called bank of america to verify the routing number, and the routing number on the check didnt match any of their numbers. Plus, the check was from an investment co. in jamaica and the check cashing place said b of a said they didnt do any international banking except venezulela.

The check cashing place said i should file a police report, which i am obviusly not going to do (i think they think i have been scammed out of the money). Bet Jamaica says the check is definitely not fradulent and gave me the name of a person that could verify which i gave to the check cashing place. I dont think the person really can verify the routing number becuase I dont think they really work for B of A.

So i am concerend that when they turn the check over to B of A, they could come after me in some way. BetJm will put a stop payment on the check and i can get my money in a different way. But i am concerend about potential legal ramifications.

Does anyone have any experience here?

i have had this issue..  i havent been with betjm for some time but i would say 3 years ago i took a check for 1500 to wachovia to cash and they thought something was up.  They checked the account and called the account holder and the # was disconnected.  They allowed me to leave with the check but would not cash it.  I then took it to a different wachovia and it was cashed with no problems and barely looked at the thing.  i took the cash and bailed.. who knows if there were problems later.

for certain a shady experience.  i felt like i was on trial waiting for that check.  half hour total of sitting in the lobby eventually before they wouldnt honor it. 

not sure i have advice for you other than trying another branch, but i just wanted to let you know you arent the only one. 

thanks for the insight guys. the check cashing place is keeping the check and turning it over to B of A because B of A told them its fraudulent becuase the routing numbers dont match.

Bet Jamaica has been good about the process so far, they are putting a stop payment on the check, although they said it takes 3 weeks for it to confirm. I am ok with that as long as it goes back in my account.

I am a little nervous B of A will come asking me questions about the check...any thoughts on this????

The whole thing has scared me enough to go to Western Union for future withdrawls. I dont want to deal with banks anymore.
