Cobra Kai, you need to leave that bank. They're being ridiculous holding the check this long. Since you started this thread, I've actually received another check from bookmaker. I deposited it on Saturday and it cleared this morning in my account. That's 3 checks for me in the last 30 days and all 3 cleared right away.
As soon as they release the funds (and they will b/c I guarantee it cleared) you should withdraw your money and tell them to go F@ck themselves
Good advice Kaufee. I think I'll be doing that. And I've sent emails to the branch leader at the bank the last two days, and no response yet. Were the checks you received bank drafts from a bank in Singapore?

Thanks for the link. I read through it, and my account is a new account. My only thing is that it's been 12 business days today that I deposited it, and still on hold. So I don't know...

Finally received a response from the bank. In response to how long it will take for the check to clear, the email said, "I am not sure since is drawn off a foreign bank it could take longer than normal. In the past I have seen checks take over 2 weeks to clear." -- Today is business day 13.
He then sent me another email asking for proof that the check cleared from the Singapore bank's end. I'm trying to get this from Bookmaker, but they're trying to get this from the processor, which is of course taking forever.

Hi ******. The issuer of the check is stating that the funds were pulled on 10/24, and the check has cleared. I understand the funds are on hold because you're wanting proof that the funds won't be returned. They're showing the funds clearing on 10/24, and that's 13 business days ago. I deposited the check on 10/21, a Friday, and the very next business day, it shows as clearing. I understand you said it can take over two weeks to clear, but this is business day 13 since the deposit. To receive proof, the issuer is stating it needs to receive a letter requesting it from the bank. So I don't know if it would do you any good for you to send the letter or not, or go through the normal process. This is frustrating because when I'm being told the funds were pulled on 10/24 and cleared, and it's been 13 business days, and I still don't have access to them, you know? Will I be notified when they are made available, or will I just have to check back? Thanks again for your help.

My bank sucks balls, and this is the last time I'm going to deal with something like this from these ******* again. And the bank is wanting a phone number to call to find out exactly what the letter should ask for. I've already told them, but they're wanting a phone number. They're doing this because they still think it's fraudulent, and I of course can't provide them this, which makes me look bad because I have to ignore their request. The nightmare that will never end.

They can't think its fraudulent if the check has cleared already. Normally that takes 2-3 business days with a regular check but perhaps there is a longer period of time associated for check clearance when the check is drawn off of a foreign bank.
I still don't understand the situation. The check has cleared, correct? If that is the case, I don't know under what justification the bank could still be "freezing" the funds

I don't know either. I've asked this same question to the bank, and my answer is "Can you provide this proof that the check has cleared on their end?" I guess it's because even though the check cleared, they're afraid the funds will be returned. But if a check clears, doesn't that mean they won't be returned. And now they're wanting contact info for the issuer of the check so they can see what kind of letter they should send, even though I already clearly told them. I can't give them this info, which makes it look suspicious. I've never seen or heard of anything like this happening before. Fuck my life...

LOL, what the fuck does that mean? If it has cleared on your bank's end, then by definition, it has cleared on the other bank's end. The funds can't be "returned" if the check has cleared. The transaction has occurred, the funds have been sent from "Bank A" to your bank. That's the definition of "cleared"

This makes it sound like they are still waiting for it to clear. At this point man just sit tight and be patient. They are getting nervous because you are calling and asking about it frequently, so they are on guard for potential fraudulent activity. If the check clears, you should be 100% OK.

Piece of **** branch manager from my sh**** bank told me after sending an email asking for how much longer this hold would be on the funds, and this being business day 15, replied, "You had said previously that the bank the check was drawn on had said it cleared. Can you please give me the contact number so I can prove the check has cleared? You told me in a previous letter that I needed to send a letter, but I need to talk to someone before I can send the letter. Thank you."
This is 13 business days after Bookmaker's processor says the check cleared on their end. I told them what I needed in the letter, and he still wants a phone number. I believe this goes to him thinking he knows what this check is from, and the fact that he said it showed signs of it being fraudulent. My issue is the funds were pulled, and they've had them all of this time. Does anyone know the banking laws, or where I can find them, when it comes to this?
Talked to Bookmaker again. The whole Payout department is working on this I'm eing told, which I appreciate. I understand they can do only so much, since they work with 3 parties including themselves. Basically told me to wait till next week, when they hope to receive proof the check cleared, and hopefully that will be good enough for the sh**** bank. It is a bank chain by the way.
I just hope if that even after receiving proof the check cleared, they're not going to still give me hassle over not providing a contact phone number. right now I'm so lost and paranoid, I would believe anything.

I do trust Bookmaker, and believe the processor is telling them the check cleared, and I believe the processor, but it's possible they could be lying. I mean, I just want proof the check cleared.

CobraKai, I am going through a very similar, if not identical, situation. I took a $2900 check (payout from Bodog) to my bank on Thursday for deposit..the teller said "this check isn't showing up in our system... I don't think this is a real check." I didn't really know what to say.. another teller came over and they asked me if I knew the people who sent it to me.. I said I did some work for them, marketing services. they said there were going to call the phone number on the check and asked me to wait in the lobby. ten minutes later she says "we have alerted the fraud department.. however this does appear to be a valid check... we are going to go ahead and do the deposit for you but we are going to put a hold on it until the 15th. if there are any issues, if the check bounces or anything like that, we will notify you by mail."
I believe she also said something like, "we're not sure why our system was rejecting it." At the time I thought it was just a bad check, but now I am starting to think that whatever alert the teller got on her computer did not necessarily mean the check was bad. This was by far the biggest deposit I had ever made with this bank, and I think that anything slightly unusual, even if just the amount being larger than normal for people who don't normally have much money in their accounts, can trigger computer warnings. I could be completely wrong about this though.
I called the number on my debit card today and got in touch with someone who said the hold was placed because of the friday holiday and weekend, which didn't make much sense to me because I have deposited smaller payout checks on days before holidays and never had holds. I asked if her if the check could bounce and she said "No I don't see any warnings about insufficient funds, it should be cleared on Monday and made available to you on Tuesday." I don't know how far I should read into that but I'm glad she said that. I deposited a $350 payout check, which was actually from a foreign bank, on Tuesday.. there was no hold and the funds were available wednesday morning. The $2900 check is drawn on a bank in the USA.
Keep us updated and I will do the same. Let's hope our banks are just being extra careful. I am sweating this check pretty hard cuz I really need this money. never had a check bounce before.

I hope for the best for you. It sounds like yours will be alright. Atleast your hold is only for 2 business days. 15 business days for me is just insane, and still not having a clear answer on the status. I just want this to be resolved, good or bad. Just tired of worrying about it, because I could use the money too right now. Thanks for sharing.

27 days, 17 business days since I deposited the check, funds still on hold with my bank. I've been waiting over a week for a copy of the cleared check, and processor says nothing, processor says nothing. Finally processor update is they're waiting for a copy of the check from BkofAma/New York, which was also on the check. Apparently it's the second bank they go through. So who knows how long that's going to take?
Email to my bank:
"Hi ****** it's *******. I see the funds are still on hold in my account, and was wondering if you had an update? I'm being told that the issuer of the check is waiting for a copy from BkofAma, so I guess once I receive this. I don't know if contacting BkofAma in New York would do you any good. Is basically the hold up in this check clearing with ******* the fact that it's an overseas check, and my account is less than 30 days old? I've been looking into this situation, and that's basically what I'm finding out. It's been 27 days since I deposited it, 17 business days. Do you have any idea how much longer I'm looking at for the check to clear? Are there set guidelines the bank goes by? Thanks for your help."
So that's where it is. I have to say I'm not as angry anymore. I have every right to be, but it's been too long now. I'm passing the anger phase into acceptance.

Well about 30 minutes after posting my last update, Billy with Bookmaker Payouts Dept. called me, and they finally received a copy of the check. They emailed it to me, and I emailed it to the bank, as well as faxed it. I'm just waiting to hear an update from them. Needless to say I'm excited that Bookmaker finally came up with a copy, and now just waiting on the shitty bank. If they still have a problem after providing this, I might have to be admitted to an asylum.
