next is after they knock out/seize the competition then they legalize it, tax it and regulated.. watch them get their hands on sports sometime as well and id suspect they force -120s on each side or more.. and squeeze the locals out and monopolize the whole thing.. Similar to lotteries now-a-days

Hasn't this happened before with sports books? I have about 1k in pokerstars but i'm from Canada so i'm assuming my money is safe. I took out 80% as a precaution.

This is really bad for the sports betting industry. Sportsbook payment processors use a lot of same poker processors. Its going to get tougher to get money in and get money out. It going to get more expensive for payouts for anyone in N.A.

I read earlier today that the poker sites involved (Full Tilt, Poker Stars, and Absolute Poker) were "seized by the FBI" and not accessible but tonight I'm able to play poker at Full Tilt.

Anyone have any insight on the above comments which I read at numerous news outlets?

i was able to log in to pokerstars but not full tilt. the traffic at poker stars is way down. i also heard that payouts are being rejected. these rooms are going to need a ton of money to defend them selves and pay any fines. party poker, pacific etc were smart to pull out of the US. yet playing the ponies online is ok. what a crock of shit.

This is just another way of taxing the working people. The ruling class is panicking and trying to get their hands on more of our money. Sick.

It's not that simple.

There are several philosophies involved in this subject. Where do I start? Democrats are by in large willing to allow gambling as long as the state gets a cut. I know all of you were shocked to learn this during the recent discussion of the bill. And no, the state is not so stupid as to take a straight bet from -110 to -130.

The Republicans are a more complex group. I don't believe many so-called "country club" R's are keen on stopping people from gambling. The problem is the social conservatives. Dare I say most of them see gambling as a sin? Just as people shouldn't buy sex they shouldn't risk their hard-earned dollars on what is going to be in the long run a losing proposition. They're not content to say you shouldn't do it. They want to make you stop. I should point out that in North Carolina, as in other places, the implementation of the lottery was opposed by these people AND some liberals. Both groups said it would hurt poor people. Again, don't oversimplify it.

One of the Republicans who fought for this legislation said it was to protect families from breadwinners who would spend all the money needed to feed, clothe and shelter the family unit. Paternalism from a party that usually decries it? Yes, indeed.

A reminder: This bill could not get passed as a stand-alone measure. It was tacked on to a homeland security bill.

I am not sure of the name of the ranking republican, but the issue is that he is high up on a committee that such a law would have to go through and he is a die hard opponent of gambling.

What is funny though is that recently the local government of D.C. passed a budget opening the door for online gambling of both games of chance and skill. The DC lottery in in charge and could possibly see a site up sometime next year.

As I said in another thread, I am simply amazed how these poker sites allowed them to be so vulnerable to the Feds. Their sites weren't actually seized; none of these sites operate on servers within the U.S. However, their URLs were purchased through U.S. based companies. The cooresponding registrars aren't going to fight the Fed over a $20/year fee.

I actually spoke to a GM of a sportsbook and he seemed surprised when I said why would anyone in the industry have their company tied in ANY way to the U.S. His quote was "Good point."

I can't believe these companies didn't see this as a risk. But I guess the entire industry does now. It will be interesting to find if sites start transfering their URLs.

I'll back Conservative Repub. when they pass laws outlawing lotteries in the states that they represent otherwise fuck off. Lotteries are the worst bet in gambling but these holy roller Consertives never have a problem with them ripping off the poor and middle class in their states as long as they get the cash.

While this has happened a number of state gambling commissions have already taken requests to state legislators to have online gaming including live poker and what you see as casino games at most on-line sports books.

From what I have seen the states would have separate gaming sites so only residents of Illinois would be allowed to play on that site and so on. I think in time it will become more like powerball where a number of states are grouped together, but not right away.

They are discussing it from state run to contracted out at this point.

If they are going to do this, than for heavens sake open up bookie parlors like the old OTB's for sports wagering as well.

BTW it's already programmeed INTO many states LOTTERY systems !

MIN wager is $5 just like in vegas !

THis would also create 100's of millions of JOBS and the USA would profit about 4-5 TRILLION a Year from all the gamblers 18 yrs and UP

With unemployment at 9% and gas at $4/gal you would think Obama et al would have more important things to focus on. I guess they don't. They will be going after penny pitching and marbles at the grade school next. Too much govt. looking more like the USSR than USA.
